Just Cause 2 - Am I doing this right?

I'm just running around shooting bad guys and blowing up stuff. Am I doing this right?

After the initial beginning missions you are open up to explore an entire island...and like I said I'm just running around shooting bad guys and blowing up stuff. Which is always somewhat fun but I'd like to do some missions and stuff. Any tips for enjoying this game more? Thanks.

Well you can do that, but there is an actual narrative with a series of missions (also, many side missions) you can follow. I do throw that game on just to blow shit up sometimes while I slowly go through the missions. There should be indicators on your map as to where you should go to complete missions specific to the story.

While the world is nice and there are some things to blow up, I wish more of the environment was destructible, like bridges, large buildings, etc. Seems like for the most part you just blow up the same things over and over, that's what lost my interest in the game.

If you're having fun, you're doing it right. The majority of that game is just exploring, blowing stuff up, etc. For a change of pace try doing a race or just look for missions.

If there are no missions available, it means you need to cause more chaos. I rarely had a problem having enough chaos though!

Do whatever you want. Like he^ said, if you're having fun, then you're playing the game right. Just Cause 2 is amazingly fun because of it's huge open world where you can drive, fly, grapple, and generally just fuck shit up.

Definitely try the missions though. The game has a storyline, albeit a silly one, but they provide intense challenges and tasks that aren't doable in free-mode (like high-speed car chases down mountains, systematically taking down a government stronghold with a squad of AI, etc). Also, vehicle races/time trials.

Agreed .....

I had a good amount of fun for pretty long, but no sense of permanency in the game, and eventually it just gets repetitive and boring, but I had a lot of fun with it...

Also is there anyway to up the difficulty after starting the game? Seems like there would be a way to trick the game into thinking I'm playing on hard mode. Usually Normal mode is fine but in this game normal is nearly god mode, you're almost impossible to kill.

I played this game a lot when it first came out. Now when I play, I usually just fly around with the superman mod, or try and drive the truck on the big mountain in the desert down to sea level without it blowing up. I've also been slowly trying to find all the collectibles and complete all towns but theres just too many.

well, pretty much all of the missions are just blowing stuff up. the story is not worth following, anyway. It's mostly just a fun run around and blow shit up in a beautiful setting type game.

same.

The best review I've seen of the game labeled it "Just Because 2", and that's pretty much it, you do whatever you want just because you feel like it, but it's distracting sometimes, the "main plot" that you can follow if you want isn't exactly interesting enough (in my opinion) to stop wandering around and actually do it, instead the game is usually just played for fun, for the havoc you can cause... just because.

the story missions unlock as you cause more "havoc". do the faction missions, get better items and the bitchin' helicopter. its a sandbox game, do whatever you want.

I tried it out after I saw this thread, and I agree with the OP. It reminds me of GTA4 in that I need both a controller and a mouse and keyboard to really do well with vehicles and shooting... But the story doesn't really keep the game going. It seems to want me to do a fuckload of Race Challenges before each new bit of the story opens up. I doubt I'll play it again.

You don't have to only do race challenges. You unlock missions by adding chaos. Races are just one way to build up chaos. You can also blow shit up.

Really though, the focus of the game is the sandbox element. If you don't enjoy that, there's no point in playing.

Also, I completed the whole game using only a controller. Normally I would want a mouse for aiming but this game has so much auto aim that it didn't hinder me in any way.

I've got the hang of it now and am really enjoying it. Though getting 100% at some strongholds is a pain in the ass, giant areas and you don't know what the hell you're missing once you get to 90+%

Controls are kinda odd but getting the hang of those too.

I quit after about 11hrs. Got too repetitive for me.

I quit after 53 minutes. Same.

Looks I quit after 39 minutes of Darksiders, 70 minutes of Alpha Protocol, 2 hours of Assassin's Creed II, 38 minutes of Dead Space and 77 minutes of Elder Scrolls: Oblivion. I'm beginning to doubt that I enjoy gaming at all anymore.

I just tried FEAR and it seems really fun, but apparently it doesn't play well with Logitech Human Interface Devices and so my FPS drops to about 12 after 10 minutes of playing.

I'm still playing it at 50 hours.

I beat the game sometime ago, I just like to fire it up every now and then to drive around, steal a plane, shoot at structures, crash it, shoot government troops, etc. Just general screwing around; good way to entertain yourself for an hour or two.

Wow, I would quit gaming altogether if I quit that many decent games so quickly.

Well I thoroughly enjoyed GTA4, Borderlands and Need for Speed Hot Pursuit... I've just been having a hard time finding anything else as engaging.

Like I said, I like FEAR but it's unplayable on my system. I might try FEAR 2 or 3, I have those too.

EDIT: I forgot, I also try Gothic 2 for 6 minutes and Gothic 3 for 25 minutes.

was a fun game. but i spoiled myself quickly by roaming all over and using mods so i can grapple to any far away object....all before trying to do missions which at that point i did a short few and lost interest.

I tend to lose interest in many open games once i explore the whole map or if the map is reduntant
