Just came up with a new use for my iPod...

So I was sitting at my desk, with my speakers plugged into my laptop... I was thinking I wanted to sit on the couch with the laptop, but I wanted to keep listening to my music through decent speakers... and the speaker cable was binding me to my desk... hmm...

Then I thought to just plug the speakers into the headphone jack on the iPod... now happily posting from the couch and listening to music :)

And yeah, maybe that should have been more obvious, but I just thought of that.

i know the 3rd gen iPods have a line-out on their cradles, but do any of the other generations iPods have it as well?

if the speakers draw too many watts wouldn't it be possible to damage the unit without an amp?

Buying the right type of cable will prevent this.

You gotta watch those high draw speakers & headphones. High end headphones are known to suck a portable CD player flat in seconds if you turn the volume up too high.

I don't think so - I know my first-gen 10GB model doesn't.

I use my iPod with headphones at the gym, and my old Cambridge Soundworks speakers at my desk every day.

If only they'd make a 15GB model with built in FM Tuner for $199 ... I'd buy one.

Make a higher end model adding GPS for $249 :)
