So I drive home after school/work. I take a left turn at an intersection to go home to my apartment. As I'm starting to accelerate from the turn, I see this brown cadillac heading toward me, in MY lane. Puzzled, I wonder if he's supposed to be turning into the Allergy Clinic to my left.
He keeps on going. I realize something is very wrong, and then a split second later, I get hit head on. Both airbags deploy, and I'm thrown back against the seat. Glass starts flying, and when the car's stopped I see that the whole windshield is cracked.
He must have been going 30+ MPH, while I was about 10 or 15 (I was just coming out of the turn). A bit shaken (and saying swear words inside my head), I look around, and spot the driver of the other car. It's an old man, and he looks pretty dazed. People start running out, and I call 911. The operator asks if I'm ok, and then asks me to find out if the other driver's alright. I tell her I'm stuck in my car and can't get out because the doors are jammed. She insists I found out if the other driver is fine.
A doctor comes out from the Allergy Clinic, and asks if I'm ok. I state that I feel fine, and he helps me open the car door (which is almsot completely jammed shut from the accident). Meanwhile, the 911 operator's been insisting the whole time that I found out about the old man.
I get out of my vehicle, and glance at the damage, and then run to his car (which is about 20 feet away, haphazardly on the curb). There are no visible signs of injury, but he looks dazed and confused. He requests medical attention.
Meanwhile, a few witnesses are gathered around asking me what's going on. "Where's the driver of the white car, Is he ok?" I start to say something, and then they realize that I'm the driver. "Holy Cow, you're the driver! Man he plowed right into you." The front of my sedan is completely crumpled, it looks as if whoever in the car would have some serious injuries.
Paramedics come, the policeman arrives. They check me out, and I sign a waiver saying that I deny Paramedic treatment. They tell me to be careful, and to go to the hospital if I have any fainting spells. There are couple of witnesses who speak to the police. I hear talk that the man fell asleep at the wheel.
Anyway, after getting all my information taken down by the police, I get ready to leave. Before I go, I comment to the policeman that I was pretty lucky with what happened, since I had no apparent injuries. However, if my car hadn't been there, he might have traveled in a straight arrow right into the oncoming traffic. That would have been very bad. Fortunately I took the impact, only going about 15 mph.
I feel very blessed, and bit shaken. I think I better stay home tonight and make sure I'm ok though.
