Just called the local police about loud 'music'...

Am I getting old and anal or something or is this actually reasonable...

It's 445 pm here, and since like 9 am someone a block or so away has been running music so loud that the bass has been reverberating inside my bedroom and head... from at least a block away! Don't get me wrong, I like good music with bass I even have my own system that could do such a thing but I never do it out of respect for my neighbors... but this just got to the point finally of me getting so sick of it and angry I just called the local police. I am honestly amazed nobody else has bothered calling them, it was that bad...

Am I getting to be an old biddy or something or am I actually being reasonable calling them for this instance?

what exactly do you mean 'infringe on my space'?

the only reason I complained was it was literally making me sick.

omg....and they just started it again...

Your space, the place you live, including the air and quiet on your property.

I think you'd be justified just for disturbing your peace, not needing to get sick over it.

Most places have noise ordinances. The behavior you describe is not reasonable.

For me, the issue is inconsiderate neighbors who think it's just peachy to leave their dogs out barking while they go out, so I get to listen to the dogs-being-tortured noises while they aren't even there.

I had neighbors like that... briefly. From about 4 houses up the block and across the street, they had music so loud that all we could hear in our backyard was that thump thump thump rattley vibration from their car which they pulled into their yard to crank the music. I walked up the street to the house, introduced myself, said hello & welcome to the neighborhood & please turn the music down to be respectful to others. I got a tirade of swearing in return for my efforts. My only reply: "I only ask nicely once." A few minutes later, the music stopped.

Tis nice to be related to a lot of the police/know the rest of them/give them free pizza all the time. :)

Out of curiosity, is it still going on, or did the police actually show up to remind the neighbors of a local noise ordinance? It's interesting to gauge police response time on things like this.

cmon its America. go over there packin and show em who owns the block.

Not coming down on you. You may have posted this after this thread was moved to OT. But your OT humor, not "wrong" in its own right, wouldn't fly in DC, as the other funny, funny, funny guys come crowding in, and down the bowl this thread goes.

No biggie, just using your response as a DC teaching moment, or something. <shrug>

Thats a good way to get arrested.

See? A response, innocent enough in itself, and yet you can begin to hear that patented OT thread flushing sound. ;)

Had a Pizza Hut delivery guy show up in my neighborhood cranking bass like that. Very convenient of him to have his boss's phone number on his car for me...

The right to 'quite enjoyment'... look it up.

There are limits. When that line is crossed and your neighbors won't relent at your polite request... call the cops.

I'm sure there are noise limits even during the day.

Here you can't have a house party with music without the police coming to knock right at 22:00 (rest time starts at this hour). There is always someone who calls.

That was one nice thing about the city I lived in - unless something major was happening, the police would be there in minutes. Made it a lot more peaceful. Though, I often wished they would have done something about the cars with loud bass that you could hear a block away. Around here, it's rare that I hear noise from a neighbor, other than chainsaws or lawn mowers or tractors. People driving up and down the road - maybe once did I hear loud booming music, and I talked to that person; it didn't happen again.

Watch doing something as terrible as this.........

They can now cuss you out, then point a shotgun at you, and many here will fully support them for it.

The right thing for you to do is go hide in your basement, clutching the phone with 911 on speeddial.

And again, nothing wrong with this post by itself, but the bowl is filling and swirling.

You can always shoot them, lie about there being a shotgun, and then come back home and order a pizza.

Aaaaand, here we have it, the Full OT. See the progression? A moment of silence for this thread, which just caught the OT and died.

1) his boss didn't care
2) it's probably a bad idea to piss off people that bring you food

I would have called closer to 9:10 AM. There is no reason for you to be hearing someone else's music on your property. Your immediate next door neighbor with a radio (no subs) at normal speaking levels could be acceptable.
