Just called AT&T and spoke to a call center in India

Man what a relief. All the American call reps were incredibly rude and not helpful at all. I had one say one moment and then just transferred me back to the 1-800 number. Went through the 1-800 # and I got an Indian woman. I was thinking this isn't going to go well. To my surprise she was polite, addresses me as Mr., and even solved my issues. No wonder they are outsourcing the call centers. The Americans are not grateful at all for their jobs and couldn't care less if you dropped your service or not.
What's with the attitude in this country? Is there no decency left?

I had to make a call to our extended health benefit supplier help line today, and it was also routed to India. The service was prompt and helpful, but I had to really struggle to understand what the person was saying as his accent was very pronounced.

24 Hour Fitness outsourced all their call center services to India. Over the past couple years, I've had to get a few credit cards reissued (never my fault, always some stupid security breach which necessitates the replacement of thousands of cards). Generally companies wouldn't call me until the second pay period if I'd forgotten to update my info with the new card number; 24 Hour Fitness would routinely call multiple times an HOUR if a payment was missed. That's fine, I have no problem with paying my bills, but the implication always seemed to be that I was attempting to steal from them.

At one point this summer, I was awoken by a phone call at 7 AM; guess who? Apparently 24 Hour Fitness had deactivated my account (at my request), then attempted to reactivate it under a credit card number which was no longer valid. I was a bit upset that they would attempt to charge me for a service I had deactivated without bothering to tell me, and in so doing, I directly compared their tactics to the mafia. The response (in a very thick Indian accent): "No sir, this is not the mafia, this is 24 Hour Fitness." That's the biggest problem with outsourcing; there's a gap in cultural understanding.

Nice troll post.

I wish. Its a true story. If I wasn't in a contract I'd dropped AT&T then and there. I really can no longer blame the corporate types. You give someone a well paying job with benefits to answer telephone calls and they treat your customers like garbage. They can get Indian's to be polite and earnestly try to resolve issues for a tenth of the cost. Seems like a pretty simple decision to me.

I was sent to a India call center to activate a new cc about 2 weeks ago. Thing is, the lady's accent was very well-trained: almost a southern-midwest American accent with very subtle hints of an Indian accent in the background.

I was holding back my laughter (just because I thought it was rather cool). But, she was very helpful, efficient, and everything was squared away promptly. I actually had a few questions about the initial benefits (advertised, but not made clear in the membership package), and she cleared it up rather quickly.

I honestly don't expect that kind of service from a US call center these days.

i dealt with several call centers in india and the majority of them were helpful and courteous. one guided me through a complex support problem so thoroughly i was awed. i dont think any american could have done it better. i wrote a nice letter to his boss and even offered to paypal him some money. he declined but was thankful. thanks indians.

I do love the names they choose

"Hello, my name is Hank. How may I assist you?"

LOL, no one is named Hank unless you are talking King of the Hill.

I called into netflix the other night when I had a billing issue. Call was picked up quickly, the guy was easy to understand and helped me resolve my issue quickly as well.

10/10 and the callcenter was in hillsboro Oregon I believe.

I guess I just get all the bad call centers. It seems that when ever my call is sent overseas I never get the help I need. If its not on the script I am screwed. Usually I will just give up and call back and get somebody in America. Never fails that when I do, my issue is fixed in minutes.

I don't really care where someone lives or where they are from but if I can't understand you, you can't help me. I have run into such heavy accents I couldn't understand a word they were saying, that is frustrating.

"Hi this is Peggy" :D

I deal with my fair share of call centers since I just bought a house relatively recently and of course have one issue after another.

Good :
Wells Fargo (Both Mortgage & Retail Services)

Annoying :
Any CC
ADT - calls me every other day to tell me about the balance on my account even though I signed up for their 3 month payment plan and they have my CC on file so just CHARGE MY DANG CC AND STOP CALLING ME!!!

BAD :
Experian
