when the PC boots up, it displays "unknown CPU" running at 1080Hz

It is an Athlon Mobile XP 2400+ running on a Shuttle AN35N Ultra. I should be getting 1.66GHz before OCing. Anyone know what my settings should be?

Go into the BIOS to Advanced Chipset Features and set FSB Frequency to 133MHz and see if that looks better :)

Hehe :D Now do the math, you want 1667 MHz and the bus speed is 133. So your multiplier ought to be... 12.5, right? See if you can persuadify it over in the CPU Ratio/Voltage Control section of the BIOS :)

AHHH - I was wondering where I could play with the multiplier...

This thing is supposed to be able to go to 3200+ sppeds right off the bat. Any recommendations on FSB / multiplier settings?

You better send it to me so I can research that for you  You can use my 1GHz Duron in the meantime, I don't mind :)

;)

What I'd do is figure out a fairly safe target, let's say 2000MHz to start with. Set up 10.0 x 200MHz, with the CPU and memory buses synchronous to eachother ALWAYS (by setting Memory Frequency to 100%). Now you have 2000MHz and you can try poking the multiplier higher, maybe 11.0 x 200 after you're satisified it can do 2000 stable. And on up.

Don't ask me why but I set the memory timing at 200% and it recognized it as a mobile athlon and ran at 600MHz...

Then I set it to 10x200 with memory timing at 100% and it runs at 2000MHz but doesn't recognize it as a mobile athlon CPU...

No, most desktop board bios will not ID a mobile correctly so I'm surprised yours' even recognized it as a mobile at all, but they will run it like a scolded dog anyways :D

Woof!

what causes the board to kick into Bios Safe mode? Other than saying it is in safe mode and forcing me to hit F1 before the OS loads, I don't notice any difference...

LOL! sit Ubu, sit! :p

My SN45G used to reset sometimes before I flashed to a newer bios and manually set up everything in it, did you already try that?
