Just Built My Computer

I just built my computer, and it has the specs listed in my sig.
I have a few questions, well, maybe a lot, so bear with me.

1) I have a dual core processor, what should I do for best performance? I have all the processes in task manager set to CPU 0 and CPU 1 for affinity, should I select just one?

2) Are there any programs that are good for burning in my comp, or testing my cpu and ram, etc, for errors?

3) I have been playing GW, and various other games, once Firefox crashed on me, and once Guild Wars did. Now, when Guild Wars crashed an internet pop up from their support appeared which said it could be due to my computer overheating, or ram issues. I went back to where I was when it crashed, and I checked my temps with a program called Asus Probe, it came on my Asus support CD. It tells me my CP temp idle is around 32, and my Motherboard temp idle is around 35 or 37. When open up the game, CPU goes to 39, and motherboard to 48. The CPU has gone as high as 41. Is this bad, good, ugly?

4) I open up task manager, and I am running Guild Wars. It says my page file usage is around 530mb, and my CPU usage is around 52%. Is this good, bad, or ugly?

5) Any updates for nvidia or anything that make games run better with dual core, or any tips for setting affinity, etc?

Can't help you with 1 since I have not dealt with any dual core processors (but my next rig will for sure have one :p) but...

2) See here

3) Those are fine temps, but I would run prime 95 for a few hours and see what happens. When it crashes what happens? BSOD? Or it just freezes? Or what?

1. Just let it run. The cpu just does what it wants. Task manager just monitors cpu load.

2. Please do a simple search first. There is a sticky in th cpu/processors overclocking area that is impossible to miss.

3.I'd recommend you test your power supply. Everything else seems fine. The power supply sticky is a good read. The most recommened power supply is the forton 450w for 50 bucks.

4.That is fine.
.
5.Currnetly games do not take advantage of dual core. A single core will run just as well as a single core. Also remeber, the bottle neck right now are video cards not cpus.

Yeah, red flags went up as soon as I saw "generic PSU". I predict a thread by the OP in 6 months about either the PSU crapping out, or worse, it crapping out and taking some of his expensive hardware with it.

Save yourself the trouble

QFT, i'd hate to see your power supply take out that nice cpu.
