Like it says, I just built my first pc and everything went very well I feel. Few questions though actually it's just one main question. I have an Athlon64 3200+ at stock speeds, and even right now as I'm doing ummm browsing the internet my cpu usage is through the roof hovers around 100% constantly and it upsets me quite a bit. I have no clue why this happens, or what causes it but the rest of my rig is in my signature if that helps any.

My guess is under processes under the 'cpu' title the number would indicate how much its using? Well it would be svchost.exe using no less than 94% constantly. Since it wont let me close it, what can I do like lower it maybe or something.

The top link in my signature has some worm-proofing suggestions you might want to look at. If you didn't take any precautions when you built the computer, then it may have a worm infection.

Thanks man. I followed your guide to building a PC and it was very helpful. I thought I took precautions, I loaded up a firewall, and all of my spyware/virus protection before I even connected my self to the internet. Hopefully that'll help cause it really sucks having a brand new PC that at times runs no faster than my old celeron 733mhz system did.

What firewall are you using? Did you install any questionable software (including P2P) or tweaking utilities like PowerStrip, or so on, or is your system at this point just a "pure" Windows install with antivirus and firewall?

It's Sygate Personal Firewall, and I have the option to throw Norton's Firewall in there too since it came with my mobo. At first before I installed other prgrams, all it was was the firewall, anti-virus/spyware programs, now it has games and other stuff on here too.

Odd thing is, after full spyware scans and virus scans, the svchost file has seemed to of gone idle and cpu usage has gone down to under 15% at all times. Oh well, maybe it just needs to be left to idle for a while every time I turn it on.

Thanks though.
