Just built a SN41G2 system

My in-laws wanted a computer to surf the web, e-mail and do some word processing. What a perfect time for me to try one of those Shuttle XPC (since cost was not the leading factor). I am running it stock with a 1Ghz Duron and 10GB hard drive (from personal spare parts) and 512MB of RAM. The install was fairly simple. Once you remove the drive rack everything is right there.
The only issue I had was mixing an old two-sided memory stick with a newer one-sided stick. It would crash during the windows install. I removed the newer stick, installed windows and later added another two-sided stick. Not a crash since. It runs a little hot compared to my fan-filled Antec 1040, but it is very quiet.
These XPC's are really slick and perfect for my in-laws small workspace, especially when combined with a 15" LCD monitor.

Not sure what the drive panel mod is. I used a memorex black and silver DVD drive that goes pretty well with the silver tone of the case and the black and silver Logitech MX desktop.

I think he is talking about the stealth mod where you cover the cd-rom with the stock silver face covering. There is pictures and discussion over at the sfftech.com SFF forum. I just put together an SN41G2 (about a month ago) with a XP 2100, 256 X 2 cruical ram, 80GB, and the thing flies...I must confess that it is a little loud (buzzing, whining) but other than that it works great. The SN41G2 is notorious for being picky with RAM. I was getting random restarts when i had some generic ram installed but it cleared up with the cruical stuff. I really like my little box and like being able to transport it with ease...
