Have had cable TV (medium sized package) forever. Canceled the U200 and replaced it with nothing. I'm hoping my retained internet media subscriptions to Hulu plus and amazon prime will balance out the entertainment side.

What has everyone's experience been with this? Did you go kicking/screaming back to Cable and plead for forgiveness? Or were you enlightened and wondered why you didn't do it sooner?

On a side note, I was able to get a better promotional rate on my internet, because I was 1/2 tempted to just drop everything and use my phone broadband to connect my house.... (I wouldn't WANT to do that, but I could try)

I grew up without cable, and have never paid for cable in my entire life.

You'll be fine. If the internet isn't enough to burn every last second of your free time then go buy a Frisbee... or a book.

Was AT&T cable service that bad? Problem with Hulu, Amazon and Netflix is no local channels, real time sports channels. Had TWC since 1999 and have no plans to drop it.

No, I had a really good experience with ATT actually, it's just that my 2nd line on my Verizon account was bumped up to a smartphone so I now pay $30 extra each month on that, and the basis of it was we needed to cut back on something else not 100% necessary.

So we ended up actually taking out an even bigger chunk then we added in ($85 TV package vs $30 added to cell bill)

Local channels will be good, I get really good HD Antenna signal from my house, just no DVR anymore

Cool, let me know how you fare ...

I'm considering dropping my U200 service as I don't watch too much TV... I can afford it, but I don't think I'm watching much outside of maybe 2 or 3 movies on TCM each month, and a few shows which I can wait a couple of seasons to see on Netflix streaming ...

I wonder if cable companies will retaliate knowing this is what's happening.

I gave up cable when I moved to my new apartment last May. I have Netflix and Amazon, and had Hulu+ for awhile until they annoyed me too much (missing episode of one show, poor streaming quality compared to Netflix).

I've been fine so far. If I get desperate to watch something before it gets to disc or streaming I can always pay Amazon $2/episode to watch. That sounds like a lot until you compare it to cable at $60-100 a month.

I've saved at least $600 so far.

I'm tempted to give up Comcast.

Things I enjoy include: DVR, basic cable shows, HBO (on occassion - Game of Thrones).

I'm using "Cable" like how "kleenex" describes all things you blow your nose with

Cable TV just means the extra TV channels you pay extra $ for, and have to use a set-top box to access them.

I understand Uverse is physically different technology, but the service provided to me is identical to how my traditional cable service provider gave me service.

I didn't think it would cause anyone any confusion, I'll specify it in the future ;p

I watch sports so impossible for me to give up cable.

Im so tired of hearing that excuses from people. Not saying its you just I've had some many friends refuse to give up cable cause they won't do any research or even try changing. For me, I watch every single Manchester United game (EPL, FA Cup, Carling Cup, CL/EL), nearly every away Sounders game, and very rarely watch NFL games. All without paying a cent other than the initial cost of my antenna, hdhomerun, and htpc (for a dvr). I get all the local channels (ABC, FOX, NBC, the other one im forgetting) so i could watch plenty more football as well if i wanted.

It just amazes me at the amount of people who say one thing and I'll ask them if they have looked into other options and all i get back is no.

Well, let's not forget how Comcast increased their billing with Netflix when they realized they were losing business to them. Cable companies fought back to appease their greed & inconvenience everyone else as much as possible.
