Just bought new fans...

CANNOT lower voltage on them... and they whine like hell, just like my old fans.

Could there be something else going on.. I just blew $30 on new fans and it's even louder, and when I lower the voltage at all they turn off.

Hmmm, are you sure you have them connected correctly to the fan controller? Are you using any fan adapters like the 12V-7V converter directron is offering with the NMBs?

Might want to ask the forum over at www.silentpcreview.com and see if they can come up with anything over there. If there's an answer, they'll find it.

If you don't get a resolution to your problem, I'd contact Directron and tell them the fans are defective and/or incompatible.

I mean, why would they suggest a 12V-7V converter if these fans won't start with anything less than 12V?

Quiet you 🙂

These fans have great reviews and such... I'm almost certain it has to do with my case.

But the fact that I can't undervolt these biatches is annoying.

Thermaltake XTunner controller.

Fans are NMB's http://www.directron.com/3110kl.html

That's the same fan Dell Uses, they have a thermistor built into them. I wouldn't think you could use a fan controller of anykind on them.

edit: dell uses one 92mm fan in thier cases tho.

Ive used fan controllers on fans with thermistors - it actually works. The fan still responds to temperature deltas but you supply a maximum voltage to it to start with. (If you have it at 9V, it will vary from hypothetically, 5V-9V).

Whether or not the NMBs are compatible... I am not sure.
