Just bought my new (used) car today... First time owning a manual. Damn, I need more practice.

First of all, traffic in Orlando sucked. But, it did help me to learn the manual transmission FAST. Only stalled out once - on a steep incline pulling into Starbucks to meet my dad :Q. Luckily, I started the car and gave it enough gas to avoid moving backward and hitting the @sshole SUV driver that decided to stop one foot behind my car. (My car was on the ramp a few seconds before he arrived.)

Then, after Starbucks, my dad went back home and I proceeded to go back to Gainesville. For some reason, it's easier for me to drive in the heavy stop n' go traffic than it is to just start from a complete stop. After finally getting onto I75, and making smooth transitions for an hour or so (including dead stops), I felt nice and comfortable.

Then, I took the car out and drove it to Books a Million just a few minutes ago. I drove it there great. But, driving it back, after reversing out of the parking spot and throwing it into 3rd by mistake, I stalled out. 😱

Oh well.. I learn the damn thing soon. Once I get the car going, it's fun to drive. Hopefully, I won't have to buy a new clutch.

I still can't understand first gear very well, though... I mean, shouldn't I be able to give it a lot of gas and slowly let off the clutch without it jerking?

BTW, it's a 1997 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 6speed... with a few add-ons: Borla exhaust, cold air intake, new suspension... blah

I'm not supporting terrorism, btw. The 5.7l 6speed V8 manages to get better mileage than my old 4.6l v8 automatic Ford Thunderbird. 😉

I LOVE driving manual stickshifts...

Unfortunately my truck is an auto and my dad's truck that just about got to 200,000 died (was a stickshift ford ranger that was damn fun to drive)

🙁

I actually prefer the automatic stickshifts more.

be patient. it took me a week to consistently launch without stalling. it took a few more weeks to drive smoothly, without jerking.
