Just bought my first wireless keyboard/mouse combo

It's a Microsoft Optical Wireless Desktop 1000, comes with both the wireless mouse, keyboard, and a USB receiver.

So... it doesn't work before my computer boots into Windows. What's up with this? I'm on a tri-boot system (2000, XP, Vista Business), and it's somewhat difficult to choose between the three with a keyboard that doesn't function until Windows is booted...

Is this for serious? Or is there a work-around?

theres a setting in the bios to enable USB in bios, which in turn lets you use your mouse and KB during boot
