Hey guys,
as the title says I just bought my first DSLR it's an EOS 450D did I make a good choice? any recommendations for kit?

the canon rebel xsi is a good camera, for kit recommendations intended uses might be handy.
a budget might be nice
for kit recommendations do you mean lenses?
did you buy body only?
are you planning on taking it for hiking? conventions? wildlife? portraits? etc

alot of canon kit lenses have 18-55 and 55-250

some additional things people might buy are external flash, lens cleaning/sensor cleaning supplies, filters, camera bags, sling straps (cause the neck camera straps can be a pain)

I bought a 450D for my first DSLR a few months after it was released. It's suited me pretty well, but I'm running into it's limitations. Learn how to shoot manual mode with confidence and you'll eventually figure out what types of lenses you want to buy to shoot the kinds of pictures you like to take.

Asking the question after the fact seems pointless. Before money changes hands is the best time.

QFT shop first, buy last.

Don't plan on a return.

What was your budget going into this? What are you doing with the camera?

Good points, well my budget is completely flexible, in all honesty I don't know how much my budget should be so I'm open to suggestions, as for intended use, it's my first SLR so I'm looking to learn how to use, learn to take a good snap, I'm a complete amateur. The reason I'm asking for advice after buying it is the only reason I bought it was because I spotted a really good deal at like 4am and just went for in on the spur of the moment before the deal was gone.

Also it came with the standard IS lense 🙂

What is your budget for a kit? What lens are you looking to have at the start?

Saying flexible doesn't really help anyone.

My budget is anything between $0 and $1,000,000 if it seems reasonable I'll consider it, I have NO IDEA what things cost in this area, just looking for advice, The lense I'm looking for again I have no idea, I've never bought SLR lenses before, so I'm looking for suggestions.

I'd suggest you order yourself a nice prime lens. Being able to adjust your aperture from 1.4 to 2, 2.8, 4, 5.6 and so on and seeing the difference it makes in shutter speed and then comparing the results (DOF) at different apertures after the photos is taken really helps to learn.

Also by limiting yourself to not using a zoom you start to pay more attention to how you frame and compose your shots rather than just sitting in one spot and zooming.

I'd also suggest picking up a hot-shoe mountable speed-light so you can start playing with light and start seeing how one of the most important aspects in photography is light.
