Ok, without wanting to overclockwhat do you guys think?
I payed $199.00 for my barton 2500, i could've gotten the t-bred 2500 for $169, what do you think would have given me better performance without Oc'ing? I do have the 333fsb with this and the 512 L2. But i'm only running at 1.8 and the t-bred runs at 2.0.

??

the barton is a better buy than the 2400+ t-bred in my opinion and should perform slightly better in most situations, cache is good
did you buy retail ???

no i bought tray, i know i got hosed slightly but i hate waiting for shipping. I saw it on outpost.com for $179 tray, and frys wanted $199 in the store. Now they're the same store so i cussed and screamed and it got me no where so i bit the bullitt anyway. I wanted it and HATE waiting for anything.lol
It does seem to be outperforming my old on 3dmark2003 quite a bit. It even is comparable with when i OC'd the 2100 to 2166mhz they are almost identical scores. not bad.
The only problem i'm experiencing now is i had to bump my agp voltage to 1.6v in bios otherwise i got 3d lockup now with the 333fsb. I know its kindof a known issue around here, but isnt it kinda weird that that fixes it for me?
Also i'm sitting at 48c idle stock. that doesnt feel so good. I am using a Dream X HSF. I know its a pretty sweet fan. Whats up?

The extra cache may have bought you 5-10% max in apps ran on the same speed chips....theoretically that is...

the debacle was when amd went to the barton instead of making the 3000+ the same mhz as the 2800+ tbred and say the extra cache was the reason for the upgraded pr rating they gave it the upgraded pr rating then dropped the mhz to lower then a 2800+ tbred....ofcourse you may remember it didn't perform better then a 2800+ tbred on many apps and I think it barely beat or broke even with it in a host of test....

What is the speed of a 2500+ barton??? It may just be a hair better then a 2500+ tbred if there is one...the 5-10% is probably not even true then...

I have a Barton 2500. The extra cache really gives it a boost. I was not impressed with its overclock ability. Still cant find anything to beat my XP2100 (1.73mhz) at 2400mhz.

Barton's are very nice overclockers, but Tbred B's are better buys still. Don't be ashamed u own a 2500+ though, its a great processsor. Like said the cache should help give you a preformance boost. It should overclock very nicely. I am personally waiting for either speed binned bartons or for a barton B. I think eventually amd will have to refresh the barton w/ a better core that will trickle down to the 2500+. I will jump on the boat if either of those happens.

I didn't mean the cache did not deliver the 5-10% just the fact that the 5-10% may have been needed to make up the amd pr rating blunder and dropping the mhz on these chips....The 3000+ barton even in apps that like the cache it doens't seem to act like a 3000+...

Loupoir you have p4 and amd setups, right???

Yup - have both P4 and AMD setup's - love the overclocking on the XP2100's.

i picked up a 2500+ because of the larger core size (for more better cooling).

I bumped it to 2800+ speeds no problem at all on an A7N8X just by raising the multiplier.

me = happy

That's what it's all about so don't let anyone rain on your parade because the T-Breds are roughly equal in performance in most usage 🙂 Have fun with your new toy 😀

cool, thanks guys. I'm actually running at 167x11.5 right now. 1920. Its running pretty good. I gained 3000 points on 3dmark2001 between this and my 2100 at stock speeds. Thats very exceptable in my book.

I used to be a wild and crazy overclocker back in the day. But now I'm all about a mad quiet and stable machine. I hadn't planned to overclock at all, but I bumped the multiplier just to see if it was locked and was amazed by the insanely easy oc. I've recommended a 2100+ to a friend who didn't want to spend as much though.

i did have the 2100 t-bred before this one and it is an awsome chip too. I really had to grit my teeth to make the jump to the barton.
