HC4900 Unbelievable deal. I got bids from several companies around the country and one was for $1695 (Most of them in the range of $2200) The best part is that it has a $500 mail in rebate on it. So I ended up paying $1195. Simply an amazing buy.

Sweetpants. Let us know how it turns out. I want to get one eventually too and make a Cinemabunker (preferably subterranean) :)

Quasmo, have you hooked it up yet? How do you feel the black levels are? Is this your first projector?

I wonder why for computer, it can only handle 1280x1024. Seems like if it can handle 1080P/60 it should be able to take 1920x1080/60 from a computer graphics card?

Quasmo, let us know how it works out, if I remember correctly you had a panasonic unit prior to this?

That probably means over VGA/D-SUB. I'm sure it'll display 1080p fine using a DVI to HDMI cable.

While the listing at projector central does say 1280x1024, the spec sheet from mitsubishi (avaliable from the projector central site) says that PC compatibility is "640x480 (Expanded) - 1920x1080 (Real)." However, it doesn't say if that is via DVI or VGA (the spec sheet lists that the projector has both). Projector central commonly calls the VGA port "PC" (as do many TV manufs). I'm just going out on a limb here, but the VGA port may be limited to 1280x1024 which would not be outlandish (stupid... but unfortunately something that happens).

The above is just speculation.... perhaps Quasmo can fill you in on what the projector can really do. Sadly, there is often too many grey areas when specs are released (especially concerning PC compatibility). I don't even want to count the hours I spent researching LCD TVs to find ones that supported 1:1 pixel mapping and 1920x1080 over both VGA and HDMI>DVI...

I hear you on that, and then whether or not the color resolution is 16 or 32 bit...

Ok, So I ordered it on the 9th and I dont know if it has shipped yet. I assume it will get here friday the 18th. I currently am using the Panasonic AE-700. I was thinking about getting the AX200, but at this price I couldn't pass it up. I plan on using an DVI to HDMI cable as my connection. I have my computer and I have my Xbox 360 to view content (both HDMI). I will let you all know how it looks versus the AE700 (Which is pretty badly damadged currently due to the blue lcd problem that is well documented). There is no doubt in my mind that this will do 1920x1080 over DVI or HDMI (has both ports).

I have the AE700U too, along with the same blue problem. I can't wait to hear your review.

I cant believe it's been 2.5 years since I originally bought my projector for $1800. I've put ALOT of hours on it, probably over 6000. It's done me well.

Ok so here is my review. I just watched Ratatoulle and even though it was 720P the picture was gorgeous. The image was incredibly crisp it hurts. Currently I am using the low life mode and the standard brightness is almost too bright. The contrast ratio and colors are above and beyond that of the ae700 and the quality is very good. I do miss the ability to manual focus, zoom, and lens shift of the ae700, and there really isn't a keystone adjustment. I am completely satisfied with my purchase, and for the price think it's a damn nice investment.

Congrats.

By the way, 1795 minus 500 is 1295. Did you mean you paid $1295 for the projector?

Why was Ratatouille only 720p? What was the source?

I would get Cars if you can; Ratatouille uses soft-focus. Watching Cars is almost 3D.

Actually my source was my Xbox 360 broadcasting in 1080P over HDMI (HDCP). But the actual material was 720P. Unfortunately I dont have any 1080P content that will play on my HTPC (Pentium4 3ghz, and 9600Pro) So I need to upgrade my computer first. I do on the other hand have 1080i material that I deinterlace and it looks great. I'm using .ts files of Dexter (great show), and they look awesome. To make it clear how good this projector is. Before, with the AE700, you looked at the screen and knew it was a projector. With the new projector, you look closely, because it looks like a 120inch lcd screen on the wall. That's how good it is.
