There was a good deal yesterday on a Dell small business 4700 with 19" flat panel monitor for $550 plus $100 MIR. This was my first ever Dell purchase, but before I did it, I upgraded a few things. Can you all tell me if this was a good deal?

If not I can call and cancel. Do you think, if I threatened to cancel, they would hook me up for a little less? Surely, they don't want to lose an order right?

These were my upgrades and what I got:

Intel® Pentium® 4 Processor 530 w/HT Technology (3GHz, 800FSB) [add $20]
512MB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 400MHz (2x256M) [add $40]
80GB Serial ATA Hard Drive (7200RPM) [add $20]
Single Drive: 48X CD-ROM Drive [I plan to buy the NEC CD/DVD burner from newegg for $51]
FREE! 19 inch E193FP Analog Flat Panel [awesome!]
128MB PCI Express? x16 (DVI/VGA/TV-out) ATI Radeon? X300 SE [add $60] - Had to upgrade b/c it has dual monitor capiblity so I can run it with my 17" LCD.

It came out to $637 AR. I was surprised at how much tax came out to, not used to paying tax over the internet. Good or OK deal?

You can get a refurbished 4700 for a lot less, but I would recommend looking at the 8400 series if you do any kind of gaming. A TON less heating issues, better chipset, larger psu, etc.

LOL, I am a student. But you really dont need a Pentium 4 @3.0Ghz to run MSFT word do you. So I guess what I really had in mind was setting up dual screens so I can play MSFT Flight Simulator 2002, Nascar 4, and Mech Warrior 3. I got a Saitek R440 Force wheel and want to get one of those sweet Saitek X45 Digital Joystick and Throttles.

Now that I think about it, I could have got a playstation 2 for much cheaper...

You might want to skip the X300 and get yourself a 6600GT online, or see what Dell wants for a similar card. That card is not a "gaming" card.

The x300 was the only available dell video card upgrade for the 4700. I searched the web and it seemed like a decent card especially for only $60. Shoot.

You might not be able to upgrade to anything else without a mod. I believe that is a PCI-E 8X slot in the 4700
