Can I have some tips, advice, and basically instructions on how to install this. I'm not familiar with thermal compound.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

I didnt have any trouble installing my pal6035... the asembly is pretty simple.
1. Assemble heatsink
2. remove old heatsink
3. clean any thermal paste off cpu
3.5. While you have the heatsink off, you might take the chance to pencil the L1 bridges to unlock the multiplier... I am not the person to ask about how to do this, as my attempt failed.
4. apply new thermal paste (or idealy somethign like arctic silver)
5. Attach heatsink (see below for some basic instructions)
6. Boot your computer and go straight to the BIOS and look at the cpu temperature there. I would do this quickly, as a modern cpu will fry itself amazingly quickly without proper cooling. If the temp is skyrocketing, shut down your system IMMEDIATELY, and find out what you did wrong.

Instaling it on the motherboard takes some strength, but if you hook one side of the clip first, it is much easier to get the other side of the clip into position. Hold the HSF still and level on the cpu when you do this though, it would be bad if you crunched your CPU installing the heatsink. Make sure you align the heatsink so that the larger cutout on the bottom lines up with the taller part of the ZIF socket.

When it comes to applying thermal paste, i cant help you much, becasue i dont think i am doing right - i can aply it niether thinly or evenly. If someone could post instructions on applying thermal paste, i would really appreciate that... *notes that though there are hundreds of reviews for heatsinks, fans, and such, nobody tells you how to apply thermal paste*

there's the ziploc bag way to apply thermal paste. put a little compound on the chip, cover your finger with a ziploc bag, and spread the compound evenly and thinly (about .5 mm) over the chip until it's partially transparent. you could just use your uncovered finger and get the same results with little or no loss in performance, but supposedly your finger oil mixed into the compound will make it dry out faster.

edit: arctic silver gives a good description on how to apply their arctic silver, but it their method will work with any paste. the link
