I enjoyed AOE II, so I took a chance today when I was out for a walk at lunch and bought AOE III. I haven't read any reviews so I was wondering if anybody on ATOT has had the chance to try it yet.

If you played aoe2 mp and liked it, i'm sure you'll find aoe3 just as dandy or not more.

Many AOE2 players didn't mind switching to AOE3. Most of these people were the ones leftover from the AOE2 --> AOM switch. A lot of AOE2 players didn't want to go to AOM, it was just too different from what they were used to.

It really depends on how into AOE2 you are, how long have you been playing? If it has been for awhile, you might not like the change.

I downloaded the full version awhile ago (I think it was like 4 days before the release), and didn't care too much for it. The demo didn't seem to let you do enough to make an informed decision.

AOE3 already has a huge DM player base, so if you plan to play it online, you'll be able to keep yourself busy. The AOE2 game is just about dead, all of the cheaters finally killed it, despite players making their own patches.

AOE3 on the other hand, will have very few cheats/hacks. The way ESO works is very hard to mess with, and there has only been one hacker who created/sold something that worked with ESO, who now has stopped.

Thanks for the info. I'll be loading it up in a couple of hours (after I get off work), and I'll post a quick review when I get a chance.

Before you open it, you might want to try it out. I think it costs around $50+tax, which is pretty expensive for a game if you don't like it.

If you don't plan to play it online, you should be able to find someone to buy your serial.

Meh, if I don't like it, I will just pass it on to a friend who will. $'s aren't my biggest concern these days.:D

I was a big time AoE I and II player. I played the AoE III once and never played it again...

I love AOE and AOE2....AOM was okay for single player, but multi wasn't all that fun IMO~ God powers just were not that fun....I'm a much more tactical player and the whole "Uberness all your units die!" never interested me

With that said, I played the AOE3 demo once...and that was it.

AOE2+Expansion is possibly one of the greatest games ever created

- Played that for about 5 years I think, basically the day after it came out, until a few months ago. Playing on the "Zone" was awesome, at least until all of the hacks killed it. But damn there were some awesome hackers for AOE/AOC.

Iv played the AOE3 demo, and even though the game/style/setting is fundamentally different, the combat\gameplay still feels the same. Anyone whos played AOK will, know what i mean. That game was incredible fun to play, and it never for boring. IMO that sort of style is completly unique to ensembles RTS's. AOE3 is the same. I didnt like AOM, but it ensemble have came up with the goods this time :)

I didn't get much chance to play AOEIII over the weekend, but I did start the single player campaign. It is quite different from AOEII, and will take a little getting used to. So far, I am having a little trouble managing the resources, and I do not like the switching back to the home city to ship more resources.

At this point I think I also have the video options set a little too high as it is not as responsive as I would like, which was a bit of a suprise as I have a pretty strong PC/Video card (AMD-FX53 with nVidia 6800U-OC).

Overall, I'm not ready to give it away yet, but it still may come to that.

Don't play the single player campaign. The gameplay is pretty bad, but worse, the storyline is just stupid. AOM had a great campaign. I like the skirmish mode the best.

ESO is having big memory leak issues, so multiplayer is annoyingly laggy. It also kicks you off whenever it feels like it. Hopefully, it will be fixed in a week or so.
