Hi, I am a poor student. I just bought a used thinkpad T21 from the IBM site for 650 dollars. I have only had it a couple of months, but I love the machine already.

Admittedly, the battery it came with is old. The IBM Gauge program says it is worn out, but it still holds a 2 hour charge. I can't get an accurate read on the amount of time left, though.

The one major complaint I have is with the hard drive. It seems very noisy, clicking alot. I am running Windows 2000 SP4 with only 128mb ram. It is an IBM DJSA-232 Hard Drive. Are these drives always this noisy, and is there anything I can do to make it quieter?

Thanks...

I seem to remember the DJSA series drives having some sort of power saving technology that made this noise. I don't remember exactly where, but there is a utility you can download that allows you to turn this feature off (reduces noise by a lot, and improves performance to boot).

Hi!

Thanks...I will look for the utility now. I hope I can find it.

It is a 20gb hard drive by the way.
