There's a EU company here called YumAsia http://www.yumasia.co.uk/ whose business is mostly just importing EU versions of the Zojirushi brand rice cookers, the (allegedly) N.1 brand of rice cookers in japan.
Thing is, their rice makers go well above $400 and no way i can afford that.
However, they also sell a brand called Sakura, which seems to exist only at this shop. I reasoned that they must be in contact with the factory / suppliers and basically this is a cherry mx clone of sushi rice cookers, so i went and i dropped GBP 130 on one of these puppies.

What can i say ... worth every penny. The rice really does come out perfect, and i love perfect rice.

It really only makes sense to get one of these if you like short grain rice. Long grain rice will cook well even in a pot with a makeshift lid, no reason to spend the extra money. But when it comes to sushi rice, i really think it's something else. I like it so much, i'll eat the bloody thing on its own.

here is the cooker:

it's quite big, almost as big as a microwave. Zojirushi have a 3 cup, 5 cup, and 10 cup model, this one only has 8-cups capacity, which i figured should be great for half the price of a 3-cup.
It heats by convection, so all the sides of the internal ceramic pot are heated at once. I cooked 2 cups for my first run and they came out fine, it should be able to handle even 1 cup. Also, it has the keep-warm function that doesn't continue to cook the rice.
They say it does other stuff too, but i honestly don't care.
