Just bought a Sig P290

Just paid for this, I pick it up Tuesday. Anyone have any experience with this gun? The reviews I'm reading are overall very positive. I will admit, it was an impulse buy. Gander Mountain had it on sale for $550, normally it is $700. It came with a holster, a second, extended magazine that has a grip for your pinky to wrap around, with that in it feels very comfortable to hold for me. The model I bought also came with the red dot laser attachment. I thought that was a pretty decent deal for $550 for a quality sub compact 9mm. So, does anyone have this gun? Like it, dislike it?

LAME!

I get my gun same day.

Seriously though, they arent the first ones to make a pocket 9mm. However they might be the best.
Will look into it tomorrow.

Good looking gun. Very compact looking. Great for conceal carry. You gonna bring it w/ you on the street?

By Gander's pricing, that was a steal even without the laser. You're probably the first to get one around here, since the model is only a few months old. I hear that some hate the disassembly, but it just looks like another lever-release takedown to me.

Yea, I got my CCW a little while back, but had nothing that I could carry. I have a HiPoint 45 - don't laugh - that probably weighs more than 4 lbs when loaded, and they are not a quality gun by any means... I traded an old Phenom I processor for it, it's a fun target shooter or plinker, but certainly not a carry gun. So, I've been keeping my eye open for something, I went just to look, and, well, you know the rest... impulse buy.

Yea, from what I've read the disassembly would be much easier if we had three hands. 🙂 I'm sure after I do it a few times it'll be no problem, though.

Didn't even know that existed. It's a sweet looking little pistol. I had a pretty disappointing Walther PPS First Edition that I lost. I'll consider buying one of these to replace it.

Model number doesn't always mean its new, their newest gun is the P224.

I do love Sig, but for a 9mm in that size I'd probably go for a LC9.

I spent the day with an LC9 on the range. It was a rental, but it was fairly new, and clean, and lubed.
Gun stinks. Difficult to operate, especially the safety. Jumps a lot even for the size, actually worse than the LCP. Jams and such, stovepipes. Kinda sticky, despite the fact I could see grease.
Recommend avoid. Or at least shoot one before buying.

Oh, and it looks like the above Sig is closer in size to the LCP (pocket pistol) than the LC9 (sub compact). So it really isnt the same thing anyway.

LC9 isn't a pocket gun, the P290 is. OP you got a solid deal. I don't know if it's worth $200 more than a Kahr CM9 though. I'm going to be picking up one of the two this spring. I currenty carry a P239 and love the darn thing but I need something smaller for another use. Height and width are the two vital dimension.

I have a P239 SAS that's great to carry. I just like these pocket pistols for the novelty. I thought it was so cool how small that PPS was... sort of ironic that I lost it, likely due to it's small size. D'oh.

HiPoint? 😱 Obviously no winner in the looks area, though usually they're either accurate or reliable but not both.

For the takedown, try locking the slide back, then wrapping your thumb around some part of the trigger guard (in front or even under it might work...do it inside the guard at your own risk 😛) and using tension from your fingers to move the slide further back. Use your other index finger to push out the lever. Tilting it to let gravity do the work could help. My fingers are kinda dexterous, YMMV.

Gotta agree about the LC9. I didn't get to try it at the range but it definitely had one of the most frustrating manual safeties I've ever used. I'd try Keltec over Kahr, the P11 seemed like a respectable 9mm pocket pistol. Only P239 I got to try was a nitron stainless in .40, which handled like a brick. Definitely was over 30oz loaded, wasn't the most enjoyable experience I had at the range.

Held one once, hated the ergonomics, but that's largely dependent on your hand. It has a good set of sights and a crisp trigger, but I still prefer my P238 (probably upgrading to the new P938 when I get the chance).

I completely agree the P239 is a great CCW piece but I need a BUG for work and it's to large for the only place I am able to carry one.

I love my 238. Took quite a bit of work to loosen up but now its the smoothest gun in my collection.

From what I've heard the p938 is a good bit larger than the 238 - ~20% in size and weight. The 238 is barely a pocket pistol, my guess is the 9 might be a bit too large.
