I just bought a 1.2Ghz 266FSB processor. I did not learn in time that the company I bought it from might be selling re-marked CPU's. I thoroughly checked the CPU and could not find any trace that it might have been tampered with. The L bridges did not seem to have any trace of a pencil or conductive pen, and I have not and will not be modifying this chip. The traces that were cut were done very precisely, but there are slight grooves where they used to be. (Possibly made by AMD's laser cutter??) The chip's identifier is listed on the chip as A1200AMS3C. The chip seems to be working fine; it?s mated up with an Abit KT7A. The chip is rated at 1.75v, but the motherboard reports it running at 1.81v~1.82v. The L7 bridges show it is set for 1.75v as well. The L3, L4 and L6 bridges are cut in the pattern of a 9x Multiplier. The L1 traces are all closed. At this point, the chip runs fine. However, I am able to change the multiplier to whatever I so choose in the bios. I changed its multiplier to 9.5 and the chip ran fine at 1264Mhz. I did not take it any higher. At this point I am at a loss. Sisoft Sandra 2001 reports the chip as Revision 4 - Stepping 2 ? Stepping Mask A4. WCPUID 3 reports it as Family 6, Model 4, Stepping 2 for Standard and Family 7, Model 4, Stepping 2 for Extended. I suppose I could have a chip who?s multiplier is not locked, which would not bother me, but the fact the chip is rated for 1.75V and is running at 1.8v without any modification on my part has me troubled. Since this is the first AMD T-Bird I have owned, I am not sure what to expect here. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
