I got the 4gb iPhone. 17 days later they drop em and the price on the 8GB (3 days too late to take it back). I recently gave the 4GB to my wife and went to get a 8GB. That was on a saturday, the next tuesday they dropped the 16GB.
I suck at timing as well.

You will have to pay a 10% restocking fee. Which MacBook did you get and which one are you looking to trade it out for?
Something similar happened to me, but worse.
At any rate, the next time you're looking to buy Apple, start reading Appleinsider and Macrumors. It can be frustrating, but they usually have a general idea of what's going on, and it will keep you from being blindsided. For example, if you were looking to buy in, say, November, they would have cautioned you that updates were coming in January at Macworld. When they didn't, if you'd decided to buy then, it would have been about 2 months until they were updated, and you couldn't very well have been surprised when they were.
I read Macrumors and it said neutral- mid product cycle.
I was actually waiting to buy because I wanted to see what the new laptop would be when they released it in January, but I wasn't interested in the Macbook Air so I decided to buy one. Didn't see the Macbook upgrade coming seeing as how it was just updated in November.
Anyways, I have until Mar. 2nd to return it. I'm going to go for the Mid Macbook with the 2.4ghz, 2gb ram standard, superdrive and 160gb hard drive.
Right now I have the 2.0ghz with 1gb of ram and an 80GB hard drive, so it's much more value for the money!

Yeah, sounds like a nice upgrade, but remember that you bought the entry-level MacBook for $1100. You're now looking at the mid-level for $1300.
That means you'd have a price difference of $310 + taxes for an extra GB of RAM, bigger HD and faster processor.
The memory and HD only come up to about $130. So is it worth the extra $180 for the faster processor for you?
Now, if you can get your local Apple store manager to waive the restocking fee for you, I'm sure it's possible, then I'd definitely say go for it.

Oh, I thought you meant MBP. Yeah, no one thought the MBs would be updated until mid-late Monday.

Just called the manager and talked to him about waiving the fee, but he said he can't do it.
I'm going to bring it in Thursday and they're going to give me the student discount on the new one, however.
