So i just got a new laptop, alienware m11x r2 for reference. i use my laptop 80% at home in my room. whats the best way to extend its battery life. if im at my desk do i have the laptop plugged in at all times. or do i take it out let the battery life drain, then replug? or do i remove the battery and just plug it in?

You should let the battery drain and recharge every so often so that its internal electronics remain calibrated. Otherwise, there's nothing wrong with leaving it plugged in.

Note that lithium ion batteries degrade as a function of time and usage cycles, so not using it isn't going to stop it from becoming useless in 4-5 years.

I believe the battery can only withstand a certain number of drain-recharge cycles, so you you should just leave it plugged in.
