I just ordered an Abit KG7, AMD XP 1800+, 1GB PC2100 RAM, Winfast Geforce2 Titanium TH.. I can't wait until it gets here (thursday).. aahhhhh.. i'm going to try to go to sleep for 2 days.. maybe that will work..

I figured I needed a new computer since I'm running dual celerons @ 466 w/ 386MB RAM, and a GeForce 256 DDR.. lol.. im outdated.. atleast 3 years :p

Anyone have tips on how to make the wait more bareable... I'm about to explode.. aaahhhhh..

lol, sorry had to vent :p

If this is your first AMD Athlon system build, I can offer a couple tips.

First, make sure the heatsink is on correctly and centered. No testing the chip w/o the heatsink either. You'll kill that shiney new chip fasssstttt.

In the mean time, download 3DMark and Sandra to bench your new system.

Hello dylix! Welcome to AT General Hardware forum!

To pass your time, you might want to start downloading the newest drivers for your stuff. You can also start preparing by planning out the trivial stuff, such as how much you're going to overclock, which PCI card to put in which PCI slot, etc....the fun stuff :)

BTW, at this moment, I'm listening to a very loud computer fan. I can't wait for my Alpha and Panaflo to come in... :D That's also around Thursday or Friday.

yea, its my first amd system ever.. previously i was an intel worshipper, until i actually looked at benchmarks.. lol.. i think i went all out ordering the system, except video card wise..

some of the additions i bought were

::][ Thermaltake Active Memory Cooling Kit
::][ Thermaltake Memory Cooling Kit (for other stick of ram)
::][ Thermal Right SK-6 Copper Heatsink w/ Delta 60mm 50 CFM (loud mofo)

i dunno if i will like this mobo tho, i might end up getting a new one.. any of you had problems with the Abit KG7??

Why consider a Via KT266A chipset based board? Its the fastest platform for athlons and the chipset is AS STABLE as the AMD chipset with all the patches (via 4n1s etc.). Your board uses a via southbridge anyways, so why not all out via kt266a? I recommend either getting the SHuttle AK35 GTR which has a crapload of features and won Anand's Silver (or was bronze?) award. I have the less fancy version (AK31) and absolutely love it. ITS STABLE AS A ROCK. As is my MSI KT7266-PRO2 which is also a KT266A board.:D

AK35GTR-$115

AK31A-$78

not much difference

Go to the mobo manufacturer's website and see if they have the manual online or available for d/l. Probably the most important thing for you to read and the one that will seem way too long if you start after your stuff arrives.

just wondering, why did you spend so much on ram when you could have just gotten 512mb and gotten a much better video card? it would have given you a much bigger jump in performance, unless you really need the gig of ddr.

i dunno. i actually ordered the 1gb of ram on accident, meant to get only 1 512 but got 2, and when i noticed it was too late, the reason i didnt get a better video card is, i dont really need better.. i dont play games often, other then solitare.. lol, j/k.. just wasn't in the mood for a better video card..

i'm sitting here waiting for my mofo mobo and proc / ram to get here.. it has 3 hours to get here.. i cant wait!!! ahhhhhh@!
