had gotten an inspiron 1100 last may, with a P4 2ghz processor for $800 (ebay); sold it today for $850 and bought myself a new inspiron 5100 with a 64MB ATI card, P4 2.6GHz with the works for $930 (dell outlet).

so for $80 i got a complete makeover computer which kicks the 1100's BUTT!
how sweet is that?

well, specifically MY 1100.

a) more memory (128MB more)
b) has a graphics card- 64MB ati, versus an intel on-board which SUCKED
c) 600 MHz faster
d) faster bus speed (if i'm not mistaken)
e) lighter by 1/2 a lb.

thats off the top of my head

My Dell 8200 was awesome for the year I had it, after which I sold it for $50 less than I bought it. They are great computers for a great price.

IMO he got a better deal...the video card is worth the extra $. Dell refurbs are as good as new ones.

also, i get an extra 128MB ram; although i lose out on the .06 GHz difference and the 10 gigs extra storage (i have a 160GB external drive)

BUT i also get a DVD/CDRW combo drive... versus just a plain DVD drive

I just got my new Inspiron 5150 Notebook today. This thing is a heavy mofo but it's awsome. I'm shocked at how fast they built and shipped it to me.

yeah i read your thread that got locked cause people kept asking why you didn't get built in wifi!!!

it is a heavy mofo but i don't care about the size much (unlike most girls). i'm impressed at their ship times too, i ordered this a.m. at 9:00, the estimated delivery is thursday morning!!

I'm not trying to crap here but I can't stand laptops. I had to install xp on one last night and I almost shot myself trying to get the thouchpad to not click while I typed.

They just seem slower, more expensive, harder to upgrae and I'm always afraid of breaking them.

Anyway, good job on making the most of your $ though!
