The main issue that I remember was that the very first MacBooks were very susceptible to staining on the palmrests. There was almost nothing you could do about... most smart@$$es would remark "Just wash your hands!" and that wasn't good enough. The natural oils from your skin would react with the plastic.

I am fairly certain that Apple has since slightly changed the plastic being used, and furthermore, the plastic reacted differently to different people, so it was never so bad that no matter what you did it would stain.

There were some overheating issues as well I think, but the Core 2 runs a little cooler than the Core that it replaced, so those have mostly been taken care of.

The most recent updates should take care of the majority of the issues you've probably read about. (Audio issues, battery issues)

The overheating issues were taken of before the Core 2, me thinks.

Yeah most of the issues were resolved with subsequent revisions. We've had zero problems with my wife's new 2.16ghz C2D MacBook. I bought one when they first came out last year and it was absolutely terrible - it had every problem you could imagine. Zero problems with the new one though!

I have had a 2.0 C2D since around the first of the year and it's been a pure joy. No real downsides to it at all. I use it for at least a few hours every day, so at this point I consider it tried and true.

the only problem i see is maybe the heating, although when you have it on for long periods working, anything would get hot.

if your palm rest gets a stain from the many hours of your oil/skin, i heard that the Mr. Clean MagicEraser works very very well. I havn't tried it myself yet, but i been meaning to go get one.
