Just bought a macbook from a pawn shop? Need to reset password.

Hi I just bought a macbook from a pawnshop and it works and everything but I am wanting to get rid of the main account because it has a password on it. Is there anyway for me to either find the password out or get rid of it? It doesn't have any CDs or Manuals and this is my first time messing with OS X.

Your best bet is to pick up the OS X discs and reformat the sucker. I would advise waiting until next month when Leopard comes out, that way you can have the latest and greatest OS on your laptop 🙂

Hold down the s key when you power it on, it'll boot to single user mode and you can reset the password from there.

My friend got it for $1000 at a local pawn shop and it is a Black 13" Macbook with the intel processor. Thanks Nothinman I reset the password and got logged on. What day does Leopard come out?

The black Macbook starts at $1500. Not exactly "not a lot more." Though that one is probably a core duo... still not a terrible deal.

2.16GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
1GB DDR2
Mac OS X 10.4
DL DVD Burner
Bluetooth
160GB HDD
13" Screen
and iWork '08
That same one new from apple is $1,578.00 so I saw that as a huge gain on my half and unfortunately a big loss for someone else.

Yeah as far as I can see. The little thing you twist to get the battery out the plastic was kind of cut but thats always facing down so I'll never see it. And there was like something that smudged on the top but I just took a damp paper towel to it and cleaned that up
