Just bought a house today! How much would a house like this cost in your area? (description inside)

What can I say, it's my first house so I am pretty excited.

It is a cape cod, 3 bedrooms, 2 bath, finished basement, last house on the street and at the end of the street is a park.

We settled on 97,900.

All new thermal windows '98, new driveway in '97, dishwasher '98, remodeled bathroom '99, stove, washer/dryer, and fridge stay, and fixed water problem in basement too.

SO HAPPY! :)

I move in Wednesday so I'm psyched! :D When's your move in date?

Hmmmm... Too bad prices here aren't as good as yours.

Eug

Hasn't it been a while since you bought that place?

OH, and congrats to you as well :)

Close is set for Feb 23 so we pay less upfront tax, only 5 days worth, and also have 5 days to move.

I love the fact we won't have our first mortgage payment until April!

Most of the upgrades we would want to do are done. It is freshly painted inside and out (siding) and it is landscaped too.

Thanks for the congrats guys, I am so happy not to be paying rent and throwing my money away.

Yeah, tell me about it. :( I "bought" it in May '99, and it's been under construction for the past 6 months or so. And because of the wonderful laws of newly built townhouses/condos, I get to pay rent on it for several months before it officially becomes mine. Then I start paying the damn mortgage. :|

It is a little over 1600sqft, not including the basement which has a 31 foot by 16 foot area that is carpeted (flat industrial carpet). The rest of the basement is still concrete by the washer and hot water heater.

Major points, house was built in 1941 and seller was motivated.

Tom. You got one heck of a deal comparing to us San Franciscians... Like moonbean said, A house like that would cost more than $700,000 in a good neighborhood in SF. Not putting the house down or anything like that, it makes that $97,000 look like pocket change. =)

I knew a friend of mines that brought a house in the Sunset District of SF for $800,000 two years ago. That is kind of crazy but that exact same house is probably worth over $1 mil now.

Congrats, TomC25 :) I would guesstimate the going price around here might be around $150ish, what's your sq footage?

Those are some outrageous prices for houses like this. For 700,000 around here you would get a house with 5 bedrooms, 3.5 bath, master bath could have 2 person tub and 3 head shower, 5000sqft or maybe more, 3 acres of land, etc.

The street I bought my house on is a very friendy, family atmosphere type of living. The house I bought was valued at 75,000 four years ago. The previous owners bought the house in 1992.

Whew, I live in Atlanta which has one of the biggest Real Estate markets in the US (in the city, at least)

so lessee...I'd say over 200 in my area.
