I will advise anybody who vapes to really source their juice carefully. I smoked for 20 years, a pack a day, and I quit 6 years ago. Using chantix. Which does have some funky side effects btw, but I digress.

Anyways after quitting cigs I felt great, lungs were fine, I could ride my bike for many many miles, hike, whatever. Some time later I got the urge to smoke again so I picked up a vape instead, and got some five pawns vape juice, made in Cali I think. Strict QC for less harmful additives, as far as they knew at least. All was fine. Then after a year someone gave me a bottle of some coffee caramel flavored juice and I fell in love and abandoned my high quality USA made juice - well after a year of that my lungs were a mess. I would wheeze sometimes where I never had before, just basic breathing issues not all the time but often enough to be worrisome. I quit vaping after that, it's been a couple years or so since then and my lungs are finally better as of the last 5-6 months. I don't think I have the same lung capacity as before but I haven't wheezed in quite a while and I've done some long bike rides and 6 mile hikes with none of that.

I was supposed to get a chest scan back in February but I delayed it and then Covid hit so the last place I wanted to be was a hospital. However I will still be going for that chest scan to see if they see anything.

Be careful what you vape.

Promising study shows compelling link between filament composition--specifically nickel-chromium--in devices compared to SS and other alloys to be a major contributor to EVALI

Interesting stuff. No difference between juices or additives or, say nicotine vs THC-based oils. The effect in this study was only significantly attributed to the makeup of the heating element. ....and was discovered entirely by accident within this research group.

When I was making my own coils, I was using Kanthal, when I switched to using pre-built it was Ni200 (supposedly essentially pure nickel) or stainless steel.
Juuls (the ones teens seem to have gravitated towards in the last couple years) use nichrome, from what I can tell.
