Huh. I swore last time I looked you couldn't get a 4x4 with a 5-speed.
2.4L for boat towing? That poor motor.
The trailer tow group adds an oil cooler and allows 2,000 pounds.
Did they actually put low range in it?
One of them tried to offroad with some of the guys I go with. A Dodge diesel ended up having to drag it over a bunch of stuff because there was 4x4 but no low range.
The rock crawling transmission with the really low low, is an extra cost option.
So you're saying that it has 4Hi, 4Lo and 4LoLo???
Well, I doubt that.
But they call it Rock Crawl, and it's different from the regular 4X4.
For one thing, it drops the highway economy a lot. Down to like 23mpg.
Freedom Drive II uses the same hardware as the FDI system but adds a continuously variable transmission to simulate the benefits of a 19:1 low-range transfer case for off-road use. This function is an alternate program in the CVT and is not a transfer case function. FDII also adds hill descent control system, off-road tuned traction control, and electronic stability program. The Patriot with FDII also feature longer suspension travel, skid plates, tow hooks, and a full-size spare tire. This enables the FDII-equipped Patriot to wear the "Trail Rated" badge from Jeep.
Both FD1 and FD2 have a "Lock" switch, so you might think FD1 would be good off-road.

Locks the center diff so the torque is 50/50 front and back, It's not to shabby for a soft SUV
Highway MPG. Real world MPG? Probably ~20 MPG.I was surprised by the 28mpg, then I realized that's what a V8 Camaro gets
lol...so all in the transmission.
And their "Trail Rated" badge is a joke.
A "trail rated" patriot may not be a beast offroad but it will be far better than the majority of small SUVs on the market.
really? we got one as a rental and it was hands down the most uncomfortable car ive ever ridden in and driven
