Just bought a 2003 Jetta GL

Got it for $11,500 minus $1,000 trade in for an old beater. Has 58,000 miles on it, but comes factory pre-certified, so an extra 2yr/24k mile bumper to bumper warranty. It'll really be for the wife, but I enjoy driving it, and it gets better gas mileage then my Crown Victoria.

Hopefully this car will last for 10 years like my wife's last car, but only time will tell.

If you take care of the car I don't see why it should not last 10 years. Electrical issues are another story though...
