Hello All,

Finally bit the bullet and bought a Dell 2001FP. It's my first LCD and I know they are very different from CRT's.

Question for everyone. What software should i get to get all the settings adjusted properly.[displaymate?]
What should I look towards Windows/Video Card settings[hz/etc]

Anything else I should get? Should I get a different DVI cable that what it comes with? [i.e. like a Monster Cable ]

Thanks all!

You should have everything you need. I wouldn't waste money on monster cable, and for software use what's in your gfx cards drivers. The monitor pretty much sets itself up.

The default 1600x1200@60Hz is the best setting, the DVI cable is perfectly fine, etc. As long as you have any semi-modern video card, you're in good shape. :)

Some calibrations would be great
I used the Monitertest software (shareware) to test my 2005FPW
Great for checking dead pixels and response time

The program however I found is not so good for calibration purpose
Professional calibration software is expensive
I found some sites that have simple calibration tool for gamma, contrast and brightness correction

If your monitor uses DVI, the contrast, gamma setting would likely to only be available in the driver setting of your video card

here's a simple calibration site

I don't know what your needs are, but the factory defaults work well for me. I use Nvidia gfx and you can tweak individual settings through their driver, ATI is the same way I'm sure. I don't think you can really autocalibate accurately if your trying to change gamma and such. Everybody sees things a little differently so it needs to be set to the user. The only thing I changed from factory settings is I lowered the brightness a touch, the rest looks pretty good.

I have an Ati radeon 9700 pro and i intend to use DVI. I was just wondering how much messing around I should do with it or whether I should just leave it alone in large part.

i am REALLy worried about dead pixels however. let's hope for the best!

When I get a new LCD, I hook it up via DVI, check for dead pixels, and go. I have yet to find a problem w/ factory color/gamma.
