Just bought a 1.4GHz and need help.

K I am running a Athlon/T-bird 1.4Mhz on a ECS mobo. I am running a cheap coolermaster on it and in the BIO the temp would go up to 51 Celcius before it would stop and this is more less idlein. Could the mobo be unaccurate or does that sound right? If I don't reformat will that cause my Win98SE to lockup at startup when detecting the new mobo?

I know your suppost to redo Win98 and everything when putting a new board but didn't have time to.

Cooler Master HSF is suck.

Definitely get a new HSF first of all. After that, do a clean install of Windows or else you'll have conflicts up the butt.
You may be able to start Windows, but it's gonna take about 15 minutes detecting everything and trying to install the drivers for it.

51c is nothing, although if you could provide mobo temp and room temp that would be helpful in determining the good/bad cpu temp. But, I'd say don't worry about 51c.

Well it ain't mine its my bro inlaws. I ain't to hot in his house I would say not to cool not to hot just right most the time.

The ECS mobo doesnt have a heatsink on it so that would cause the mobo to get fairly hot. I can't remember how hot it was getting but I am pretty sure it ain't as hot as the T-Bird.

This is just my opinion but I wouldn't worry too much about it unless you're getting real close to 60C.

My 1.4 usually runs at 51C-53Cfull load.

It could be better but the thermal pad on my heatsink is rather screwy right now so when that's all worn out, I'll just apply some arctic silver on it.
