We have Verizon and shold be switching to Vonage pretty soon.

So the guy calls and says he can offer me 200 free long distance minutes every month along with three calling features and local calling. FREE first month he adds. All for $39.95/month!

"How much are you paying now?"
"Ummmm ... $29/month for UNLIMITED local AND long distance plus many calling features."
"WOW ... that's a good deal, thank you for your time and you have a good day sir."
"OK ... now stop calling me everyday please."

$29.99 for unlimited local and LD from Verizon? I may have to call them up.

How much bandwidth do IP Phone solutions like Vonage suck up?

the $29.99 was in regrds to Vonage.

Vonage doesnt suck up much. I hear upload bandwidth (voice quality) takes roughly 30k.

bah I get a call every week from some asshole that tries to sell me a phone card to call india. I've told him I get $.13 - $.17 per minute via vonage and their rate is $.22
Of course he goes into "Oh sirrrr you must be paying a monthly fee for this service." and of course I tell him nope but he doesn't believe me.
Then he goes into "Oh sirrrr we have fiberrrrr optic lines which are the best quality. You should try it sirrrrrrr."
Every time I tell these idiots to never call me again but next week, same call.

come on, help MCI get more money.

About 10 years ago (ironically I was a temp employee for MCI at the time), I got into a cycle of being repeatedly asked to switch my LD between Sprint, MCI, and AT&T. They eventually started offering me a check commensurate to my monthly long-distance bill, then twice that amount. Over the course of about six months I took in $600-700. Not bad.

Wow, just checked their international rates - they're almost as good as calling cards. How's the sound quality though, is there a 2 second delay like on most calling cards?

That's quite a bit considering most broadband connections are only now hitting 256k(~about 30k/sec after overhead).

I have Vonage, and it doesn't suck up bandwith at all really. I can still do whatever I want to online, with no problems. And the service so far, had it for almost three months, is great. Clear, and no delays in conversations.
