Just been denied my visa to Russia

because 1200$+ is a lot of money to waste, especially as a college freshmen.

My visa was denied because my tourist invitation required that I stay at a specific hotel, rather that at a friend's house, and it was way too late to get a private invitation. It's a reminder about how open America/Canada/et al still are.

But anyhow, I'm just sad that so much cash went to waste. I'm going to try and get at least some of that money back from the airline tickets, though.

What a fvcking joke of a country. It's not like russia doesn't quite suck enough sausage on a regular basis that it doesn't need tourist money and then it denies a tourist who will give money to their sh*ty frozen wasteland of a hellhole? What a farce.
 
Why didn't you wait to spend that kind of cash until you had your visa in hand?

i sort of laugh when this happens... the trick is you don't go through the russian consulate/embassy, but through a "third party visa company" - it costs more, hell if i know where the costs go, but that's how you always get the visa...

i've gotten russian visa's twice.... i know a lot of people who've been denied... at least they've got a handle on the problem that is illegal american-russian immigration.

Or for that matter, lack thereof.

As it stands, I'm going to try and bump my tickets to the summer - try and save as much of 800$ as I can.

As well as get a private visa.
