Just been asked to perform at state governor?s inauguration.

I've been social dancing (tango, swing, waltz, cha cha, salsa, rumba, etc.) for just over a year and I really like it. My wife liked it so much that she got a part time job as a dance instructor. Well the governor's office just called my wife's boss (who at one time was winning money at national dance competitions) and asked if 4 people will come down and dance as part of the entertainment that night (dressed as 1940's soldiers and nurses). Basically it will be me, my wife, my wifes boss and her husband.

I have a few issues with it though:
1) I'm quite shy, and get quite nervous on stage for anything. It will be a crowd of 7000+ people. Although I'm sure we aren't the main attraction it still will be more people watching me than ever before.
2) I really dislike the governor, Mike Johanns (bad political views he has). His ideas: cut property taxes, but drastically raise sales tax and gas tax and cut education funding to support the property tax cut.
3) If they choose swing, which they probably will for most songs, I think a lot of people know it better than I do. Sure any of the other dances I'd be happy with. But after that swing craze a few years ago, I really pale in comparison to some of them.

I don't know why I'm telling you this. I guess I'm bored with my research and this was something that was interesting today. I'm still deciding if I want to do this (although I'm sure I'll be talked into it).

HOLY SMOKE!!!! another Nebraska boy on here, I could never figure out if our governor is a male or female.

Bleep

Only 4 things to do in this situation. In the order listed, do:

1. Pick up the uniforms
2. Go home
3. Put on your little soldiers uniform, have your wife put on the naughty nurse uniform.
4. Get busy like you are on leave and its WW2

I have a dutch accent. Isn't that veird?

Wow...very impressive...I would suggest just concentrating on your wife as much possible (or dance partner), and trying to block out everyone that's there, since they don't have any part in your dance, it's just you and her.

As for disliking the governor, I would consider just saying that you won't do it if it's that important to you.

In 8th grade I had to do a book report. We were required to hold the book during the report to keep our hands occupied. Well I had a soft cover book. By the end of my 5 minute speech, it was in 6 large pieces and many small ones. I am getting better slowly. School reports and especially my master's thesis defense helped. This summer I performed two dances at the state fair. But almost no one came to watch, so it wasn't too bad.

There actually are quite a few Nebraskan's here. I'll keep a look out for the gender for you 😉.

Funny.

Well that is the easiest part to get over. I voted against him, but that is all I will do. Nebraska is the most consistantly Republican state of them all. I'll still support him from now on, even though I really don't want to watch the inauguration.
