Spoiler's?

Whats up with the ending? I havent played through HL but have heard the story(well parts). I don't get the ending to HL2. Did they just leave it open for a HL3 or something? Did Alyx die or what?

Either way still one of the best if not the best single player FPS'ers I've played.

*spinnas*... err... *spoilers*

The assumption is that the GMan waited until the moment Gordon finished his objective then "beamed him out" or something of the sort.
It's also assumed that he's the one that caused Gordon and Alyx to be a week late in teleporting back to the lab.

THe story is convoluted at this point. It's like the beginning of a novel.

Everyone says Alyx dies, but there is no proof. The last position Alyx is in is leaned back and covereing her eyes. That's not dead.

Yup. Thats the thing, we dont know what happened to anything. The Combine, Alyx, or City17. Yea, the G-man is up to something. Besides, the G-man is nothing but Gordan Freeman's future self, hence the name G-man. :)

(I kid I kid, but who knows for sure, eh?)

Doctor Breen? He was the guy who was kinda the negotiator for the human race. If anything, he was going to keep the human race from being whiped out by the combine i beleive.

Just finished it myself. Very aggravating. I'm soooo sick of games that have unfinished stories -- or at least unfinished for the main character. Would it hurt to let the character move on with his life? Or maybe let him/her live normally for a while? Grr!!!

Sure it is. Works just fine in books. There was just NO satisfaction in the ending of HL2. (Nor was the any in Doom 3). I just spent the last 4 days I had of vacation playing this game, expecting to have "accomplished something" (speaking in a gaming sense of course), and after kill countless zombies, gaurds and those goddamn striders, I WANNA SCREAM because I feel like it's all for nothing. I WANNA SEE what the hell I did all that for. Fvck! Grr...

/me goes back to playing counterstrike.

what if we all missed one critical secret in HL2, some action we should've taken, that would unlock another ending... or better... a whole new section of the game (the tower exploading would be 1/2way through the true HL2 game) ;)

Nah, I highly doubt it. This is just my opinion of course, but I think there are a few expansion packs on the way. Think of it. Playing the game through as Barney again (a la blue shift from HL1), or playing as one of the combine soliders.

Sounds pretty cool to me. Maybe then we'll see some new story tid bits :)

If you don't mind me asking, how long would you say it takes to beat the game? I'm using a mac powerbook right now, but I'm considering getting my PC back online and buying a copy of this before I go back to school. Would you say it's worth it? I don't want to be disapointed with some 10hr game; however, based on the origional HL I doubt that will be the case...

I ain't sure how long it took. I am guessing 13-16 hours. It really depends on skill and how much you get stuck. I myself only got stuck a few times at no more than maybe 10mins each time. Some ppl might spend 30mins trying to figure out where to go. Its easy to get lost alot. I myself wouldnt give $50+ for it. Its well worth $30 though(which is what I gave). It is the best single player FPS'er I've ever played. Havent played through HL though.

EDIT:I forgot I prob spend 45mins alone trying to get through this one part where alot of soldiers came out(died prob 8 times before I got it). That part takes a bit luck.

They could just let him continue in Sims 3

G-Man talked about the "highest bidder", as did Dr. Breen. I personally think G-Man or someone will "beam out" Alyx too. She seemed too important, and we must not forget that Gordan had the same fate as Alyx if it wasn't for G-Man.

so did Alyx die? Or no one knows yet? I heard somewhere HL2 has a good ending? Don't see how this is good.

I thought it was good because it ended so quickly and left me thinking about the plot for days. We won't know who dies until HL3. Dr. Breen said the explosion from the reactor thing would be enough to take out everything, so I imagine G-Man (or someone else) "beamed out" other characters too. Then again, I'm just guessing like the rest of you...

You couldn't go back and freeze yourself in time, because then you'd never get out, right?

I would fly around the levels and look for neat things.I know some of you might say this ruins the game, but I did it because the game had like no story(my fav part in any game).Open the console(go to options>keyboard>advanced>and check the box for console. Then while in the game hit ~.In the console enter "sv_cheats 1" with out the " then enter "noclip" without the " then you can fly anywere even through walls)If you enter god you take no damage so you don't have to worry about that.

READ!!!
What I found very cool is in the last level were the reactor is.There is a thing like a turtle strider(you have to see it)that crawls. In a room that you have to fly to there a big flying bug like ship and next to the turtle thing are small flying bug like ships.None of these move and the only way to get to them is by fling. Also theres a room in the 2nd from last level I think that has that dr.breen guy sitting in air looking a a monitor.(I think there making fun of the matrix?)But try to find these things and others and tell me what you think.I think there either things that didn't make it into the game or peeks at hl3.Hopefully hl3.:)If they are from hl3 it could be out soon?

It took 4-6 years for HL2 because they had to dump the licensed engine from ID and make their own. Took a lot of time. So hopefully the sequel or expansion will only take a year. Just like how D3's expansion is due out in 2 months.

Another Blue Shift would be interesting since Barney was sent off on all sorts of missions too.
