Just Beat HL2 - My Thoughts sans Spoilers

Real quick, I can sum up HL2 like this:

I'm an enormous movie/theatre buff. However, HL2 is arguably the greatest piece of entertainment that I ever experienced in my life. Greater that any game I've ever played, movie I've ever seen, and possibly tied with the first time I saw Les Miserables or Phatom. Yes--it's just that good.

Valve had no greater critic or synic than I when they kept lying and pushing back the release date. But now....holy crap. I take it all back. It was worth the wait. This marks a milestone, not only in pc gaming, but in entertainment.

For the 2.5 ppl who haven't bought HL2...buy it. You won't regret it.

I gotta get this game!!!! But I'm worried about trying to play it on my overclocked 9800...then again, I play Doom 3 at 1152*864 at medium settings and get high 30s/low 40s FPS. I guess I'd be OK.

I'm pretty sure that HL2 runs better than Doom3.

You are worried? lol HL2 has been the #1 game I've been looking forward to and #2 STALKER and I have a radeon 8500 lol (can you say 20FPS 640x480 with no DX9 effect?)

On top of that my PSU suddently decided to give up and it shows Low 2.98 on 3.3V rail. My videocard doesnt seem to like it and everything crashes when I game. So now i have to get a new PSU and a new VDD but i got no money for both - ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Stalker is another game that looks awesome!!! I'm still playing Far Cry and I like some of the user-created maps...but it's getting old. Doom3 was/is awesome and I've beat the game on the second skill level already...no real initiative to try any of the harder skill levels...maybe if beating the game on "this" skill level unlocked some more maps...that'd be cool.
 
It'll be January before I play this. I'd be missing out on a lot of stuff if I play it with my Ti4200.

My overclocked 9800 Pro gets 50 frames at that resolution on high. WTF? check your drivers.
 
I'm just past the canals and I'm blown away already. I'll have a bit more time to devote to it as I beat Halo 2 last night in about 8 hours almost straight through.
 
I'm in the middle of a move and won't have an internet connection until sometime in Jan. After all this waiting I can't even play the damn game! This represents a major screwup on valve's part. Not real happy with Valve at the moment.
 
I just played for an hour last night and got into the middle of the canals. WOW! This is the game worth waiting for. DOOM3 was boring, but this is fantastic. Well worth the price of my BFG6800U-OC.

dude, i run it on my laptop with a mobile radeon 9700, at 1280x800 and high on all the visual settings (no anti-aliasing cuz it blows on LCDs imho) and i get probably low 30s in frame rates. the game looks gorgeous. it will run beautifully on a 9800, especially if it is OCed

I'm playing HL2 with my Ti4600 @ 1024x768 on High settings with no antialiasing. I get slowdowns on occasion sometimes on heavy action scenes, but not really that bad. Anyway the game is GREAT, and I cannot wait to play it again in 1600x1200 all high settings when i get my Dual 6800GT's. In the meantime it's still very playable on my video card, just don't get all the eyecandy that I would like.

Yeah HL2 is such a great game.

I'm running it at 1152x864 2x,8x and the graphics are so good :Q

I think its so much better than doom3. Graphics with great gameplay.

Why don't you just download a random generator for activation or something? I am sure they have something like that for pirated versions 🙂
