Just beat Fallout 3...

So, I just beat Fallout 3. Right before I entered the point of no return I hit level 20. Nothing can really kill me at this point, i have a hundred stimpacks, unlimited ammo pretty much. I choose the perk to see all the locations. WTF, there are soooo many places that i havent visited, and was never given a reason to discover them.

I attempted to go see a couple, but they were now boring. Not hard and I didnt really need/want anything at this point. I'm carrying around extra items just to find merchants with money left, not that I know of anything I need/want to buy.

With about 60 locations left undiscovered, I give in and beat the game. Did the level designers intend this? Why didnt they extend the story line to include more locations? Are a lot of these discovered if you take the "evil" route?

maybe ill play through again evil, maybe not, just left with a kind of wtf....

I did enjoy what i played though.

I beat the game twice (for good and bad), I've taken the time to talk to different people, and have had different Karma levels throughout. I too used the Explorer perk and found it really only beneficial if you go to these locations before level 20.

I got bored well before I beat the game. It was better than Oblivion to be certain, as it only required a few mods to address its shortcomings, but it didn't grab and pull you in the way a good game should. Most of the time, I felt like I was just playing it before I'd paid for it.

Bethesda games 'suffer' from this in general. Think of it like Diablo 2. Sure, there are quests, but there are also plenty of other 'dungeons' to explore as well. All those locations are just there to reward the person who goes off the beaten path. Unfortunately, the gear in fallout 3 seems so generic that there isn't really any reason to. There's really not that much to find in most of those off the path areas.

Broken Steel DLC changes a few of the areas that you previously explored [or quested to]. 🙂

But yeah - a lot of the places are just "oh cool - I didn't know that was there" or are only for the die hard explorers.

Well it has to be said it does add to the replay value if you dont do everything the first time round, or even the second time round. Ive played through the game 3 times with various characters.

The developers intention was that you play the game with more then one character, rather then do everything with one char. It's a good thing IMO because then your next char will probably have different skills/perks/stats and you'll play the game in a different way.

Too bad that you can essentially make your character a master of all around level 20. With the Broken Steel DLC, you WILL be master of all by level of 30, and thus, there will be no point in a second character. However, that does give someone who plans to do everything with one character (me) more purpose to explore. Too bad 50% of my experience went into the garbage because I already hit level 20 before doing/killing half the shit out there.

There are a ton of sidequests and many of them incorporate these locations. Others are just there to add more to the landscape.

If you only worked on the main storyline quests and ignored everything else then you're probably left wondering what the rest of the game is all about. There are some fantastic side quests, many of which help shed light on the world and what life was like before and after the nuclear fallout. Lots of small stuff like that that help give the world more character.

Some people hate that stuff and have no time for it, others eat it up.

Anybody here tried the Broken Steel Expansion pack? This download is supposed to lengthen the main quest story by quite a bit (apparently).

Yup - it's pretty lengthy and battle intensive when compared to the rest of the game and it adds a few changes to the existing areas as well.

Would you recommend a person pick this expansion back up before playing the game? I don't own Fallout 3 yet?

Just like Morrowind and Oblivion, you should have all available expansions (and mods you like) installed before you start a new character. Many times you will access to new items or features as soon as the game begins.

How much gameplay (hours) is added in Broken Steel?

Probably 3-5 hours total. It also changes the story a bit towards the end, which ultimately lengthens the game further.

Games for Windows Live the only place I can buy Broken Steel?

Or does STEAM plan on offering it soon? (Honestly STEAM needs to pick up the pace sometimes)

I have to agree with the OP.

I did do quite a few side quests and explored to get upto lvl 20 but once I reached that point I had no interest in the side quests and got on with the main story. I did get the explorer perk and there was loads of side quests I hadn't discovered.

Have to yet to play through the game again but when I do I think i would try and do different side quests, mainly those towards the top of the map and blow the crap out of megaton! 🙂

I modded the game to remove the level cap; 110 hours into the game, I'm level 32, and I've still got about one quarter of the wasteland to explore.

There are lots of unique items and weapons to be found (pretty much all of my eight currently equipped guns are unique), and plenty of side-quests to unlock. This is on vanilla Fallout 3 with no DLC content added.

Those of you rushing through the game and only sticking to the main story are missing out on a lot.

You're not playing "vanilla Fallout 3" after you've modded it.

Anyways, yes, you will get WAY more out of the game if you actually bother to explore. Some of the side quests are fantastic. And if the game is too easy, you should probably consider upping the difficulty.
