November 2010, Solyndra announced then that not only was it not going to create those 1,000 full-time jobs so eagerly hailed by Obama and Biden, but it also was going to close an older factory and actually lay off 175 full- or part-time workers.
That left U.S. taxpayers holding the financial bag for nearly three-quarters of that loan guarantee, about $390 million.

So, did they build the new facility or not?

WTH is going on here? If they didn't build it, why must we pay up for the guarantee? If they didn't build it the loan should not have happened.

If they did build it, shouldn't they be making mortgage payment? If so, why do we have to pay up?

Did they go bankrupt and default?

I'm not saying that there isn't any fraud here but the US solar panel manufacturers are getting killed by the Chinese dumping.

As far as I can tell "green jobs" are those for which we must transfer massive piles of dollars to maintain.

We need to be funding basic research on solar energy, especially methods promising economical manufacturing with reasonable efficiency. Once there is an economically viable system, the market will take care of funding its production. Until then we're merely subsidizing some millionaire (if not billionaire) with tax money. Unfortunately for us, politicians prefer subsidizing the millionaires and billionaires.

Just goes to show that solar is still a very poor investment compared to buying a Congressman, Senator, or President.
