Just an idea... subscription for forums & main site?

Is there any way you guys could make it so subscribing would eliminate ads on the main site?

Or make it so subscribers also get something special dealing with the main site...

I'm just saying as it might help reel in more reluctant folks (I know I didn't want to subscribe for a long time but damn, I can't believe how much nicer it is now)

Also, how about a 3 day trial or something so that users actually can test out the speed... no little diagram or "testimonials" will change some peoples minds, only a trial would..

what do you guys think?
 
The trial period has been mentioned and many good points were brought up regarding it. One of the best points being the fact that regulation of the trials would be near impossible. The discussion can be found here.
 
I think it would be reasonable to let subscribers have less ads on the main site, if maybe not any at all. The speed is fine, and I don't really mind regular banners, its just those huge flashing ones that get really annoying.
 
ya, people would sign up in new accounts just for faster access and it'd get to be one big mess...

oh well, it seems good until you end up really thinking about the effects..

It would be SIMPLE to implement. It would take Zuni like 20 minutes to implement. It would just take an extra trigger in the DB and some extra code in the forums.

Except Zuni has said before they will not modify the BBS code.
