Not everybody wants to spend $350 or more just on video cards.

i think this KILLS the 6600GT at the pricepoint

unlocked x850XT with sm2 > 6600 GT with sm3

if he was planning on getting a 7800gt ... means that he is willing to drop 350$ on a vid card!

hmmm, the 6600GT puts out an ASTONISHING 14 fps in FC @ 16*12 w/ 4xAA/8xAF as where this card puts out 49 FPS......But it doesnt have SM3 support so its better to go with the 14 frames and SM3 right??? :roll:

7800 gt is overall a better performer overall but at a higher pricepoint

personally, i got an excellent deal of a GTX so i couldnt pass it up but had i known about this card before hand, i would have really considered at

at this pricepoint, the thing is UNTOUCHABLE

But, but, but... SM3.0 is the end all be all of modern video cards. This is blasphemy! :D

ps - I have one of these GTO2 cards on the way as we speak. I also found it to be untouchable.

Does SM2 look a lot worse than SM3 or something?

edit: i understand 7800gt would be better... but is it worth the extra 150 bucks?
in other words... am i gonna see a fram increase from 70 to 80 or like 50 to 80?

In what game/situation is SM3 even an advantage at this point? I know there's Far Cry, but from what I've read, the HDR implementation is less than ideal and forces you to disable AA. Even in the new Lost Coast HDR demo, the ATI cards run HDR just as fast as the nVidia cards. Where do you need SM3? I know it's good for the future, but as of right now I see little or no use to it. ATI was smart in their SM2+ implementation; it seems to get the job done just fine.

7800GT -> advanteges: Faster than x850xtpe(which the GTO^2 supposedly OC's to) at stock. SM 3.0(yes it is being used and will be), can be overclocked higher than the x850xtpe, lifetime warranty if you buy evga and there is also the step-up program from evga

disadvantages: much more expensive

GTO^2 -> advantages: overclocks easily to x850xt/pe, saving you a lot of money for future upgrades

disadvantages: sm 2.0, no lifetime warranty(so if mod/overclock kills card, bye bye)

If you have enough to buy the 7800GT, you certainly can wait a lil bit longer for ATI's new lineup and see if its better than NV's 7xxx.

70 -> 80, nope.
50-> 80 hell ya.

Well I havn't experienced it myself, but supposedly sm 3.0 makes the whole experience that much better.

wow in the review it comes close to the GTX overclocked it's really almost double the framerate??

edit: meaning the 7800GT can reach almost double the fraemrate of a gto2?
