Hello folks!

Just last week I adopted Daphne a one year old Alaskan Malamute/Golden Retriever mix (web site is wrong). Shes absolutly awsome! She is one year old and had good previous onwers until they had a baby who ended up being allergic. She is very wild and michevious and needs some training which I am do right now. After all, she is still a puppy.

Ive read a bunch of articles on how to go about training her basic obediance, and have already taught her to sit, lay down, and "give" the ball or toy to me when I ask. The only problem that I havnt been able to find any hints on is how to teach her to allow me to brush her.

Basically, if I get out the brush she immediatly either spin around in circles or expects me to give or throw the brush as if its a toy. She also playfully "puppy nips" my free hand. Any tips on acclimating her to being brushed?

use a treat of some sort. Keep it enclosed in one hand and that should distract her, hopefully she'll sniff rather then try to eat that hand. Then brush with the other hand.

After a while she'll be happy to get brushed because she'll think she's getting a treat.

Our golden basically does the same thing. We just end up giving her a treat or chewable bone while we brush her. Keeps her quiet and still while we brush her.

Congrats on the new dog! I have a 6 year old Alaskan Malamute and she's wonderful 🙂

Get a short leash and a comfortable collar and tie her to something while you try to brush her, whenever she gets too resisting you have to let her know with a loud "no". After a while she'll start to like the feel of the brushing and she'll sit still and be cooperative. You gotta good mix of dog... the beauty of a husky and the humbleness and playfulness of a golden retriever. 🙂
