Guys,

I was looking at the possibility of getting a Tiger and a pair of PIII600's and pushing them up but from what I could see there were no options to change the bus speed on the board, it was auto detect only.

Am I missing somethiong here?

The Tiger 100 will let you change the bus speed to either 103 or 112MHZ, but that's it....

And at least in the BIOS version I have, you MUST leave the overclock warning enabled in the BIOS for the bus speed change to take effect. If you disable the warning, the bus will default to the CPU default regardless of the BIOS bus speed setting.

No big deal, except you have to keystroke past the boot up warning....

This may have been fixed in more recent versions of the BIOS, but not likely.... Only a minor inconvenience though as I only reboot my sys about once a week....

BTW.... I just noticed (jeez, I'm dim sometimes) that my BX6r2 should be able to use AT LEAST up to 700MHz Coppermines.... I thought it was not Cu-Mine compatible.... New BIOS flash is all it needs apparently... Cool!

Looks like it Cu-Mines all-around! Slot-1 for the BX6r2 and FC-PGAs for the Tiger....

IF the FC-PGAs don't work in the Tiger, then I'll just have to get a new dual board for that brand spanking new server case in my closet that I got from jfh a loooong time ago..... (like that would hurt my feelings) ;)

I would love to hear if someone has been able to get a pair of coppermines >=700(Not O/C'ed) running dual on one of the 1833 boards(Russ??)

I have one that should be arriving on Monday and I have been debating about whether or not to keep it.

Cautery,

I built a system on the 1832DL Rev. F a couple of months ago and it did have a 133 FSB setting in the BIOS. I guess it just depends on your revision and bios level, but it is out there.

NT4Mike: Yep, I know the Rev F boards will do it, but I have Rev B that technically DOESN'T support Coppermines... but Russ has run a Celly II in single mode on one, so I would "assume" that dual FC-PGA PIII's should also work (gotta use the Slotket to change voltages for overclocking).

Still need to know the best Slotket to use though...

The new Iwill Slocket III actually supplies its own voltage, so it doesn't matter what your motherboard supplies. The Slocket III has a 4 pin molex connector on it, and it takes the power directly from your power supply. I don't know if it has been released yet though.

Russ, Do you know that the slokets you have actually work with dual celerons on a different board. It could be a problem with the slotket or the tyan may not like the slokets you are using.

denali,

Yes, they work fine on the ASUS dualies. I thought about that too, so I have a couple sets of other slotket types already on the way. Could be a compatibility issue. Actually, I'm not even planning on setting this board up with Celeries; it's for another Dual P3 server box, but I just NEED to know.:)

Clay,

The Rev. B, 1833 that I have the Coppermine Celery 566/850 running on has ALL the bus speeds:

66.8
68.5
75
83.3
100
103
112
133

I also have overclock warning disabled and the bus speeds work fine. The BIOS revision is 2.00.02. The BIOS revision on the board in my server is 2.00.01. I don't feel like opening that one up right now, so I'm not sure of the board revision.

As for voltage, a lot of people have mistaken assumptions in this area because they consider only the range that appears in the BIOS with a particular generation of chips. For example, if you pop a Celery classic on a BH6, you'll see 1.9 to 2.3. Pop a Cumine Celery on the same board, and you'll see 1.45 to 1.7

But, the VRM's on modern motherboards have a much wider range of capabilities than that indicated by the settings. The BIOS just doesn't let you see them because it's auto-detecting the CPU. Pop a different CPU in, get a different set of parameters.

cautery, what fan/hs combo you going to use for your slocket-mounted FC-PGA's? I know the space is already a bit tight between the Slot1's, will Arctic Circles fit or are you going to use something else?

mechbgon,

The Arctic Circle, aka Panaflo Orb will fit. There is a clearance issue with the capacitors in from of the CPU 1 slot, but it's manageable.

Russ,

Hmmm... my 1832DL has ALL of those bus speeds as well... EXCEPT the 133MHz setting.... I wonder if the BIOS revision might be controlling that.... we'll see. That'd also be extremely cool if I could ditch that OC warning message....

Yep, on the voltage thing.... I just thought the VR on the older Tiger would not drop down that far.....

Live-n-learn, right... :)

So I am definitely going with PIII Cu-Mines cB0 stepping for both the BX6r2 and the Tiger... I WISH I could go with Slot-1 all-round, but I "NEED" to be able to O/Cthe Tiger, so'll it'll be FC-PGA.

mechbgon:

The Arctic Circle will definitely fit on the Tiger 100 Rev B with Slot-1s.... I've verified this several times.... That's why I wanted to use Slot-1s on this board.... I may just have to settle for Slot-1s at sefault volatge on the Tiger 100.... cause I REALLY want to use Arctic Circles for cooling them. BUT, if they DON'T work in the Rev B board, I'll be stuck.... needing to find another board. Dang, I'm so indecisive.... :) Been a long time since I got a speed boost.... :)
