As recounted by his mother. One has to wonder how different Mitt's life would have been if his father didn't have that social safety net under him when times were that hard for him. And in context of Mitt's 'off the cuff' remarks about 47% of Americans, it really makes him a despicable person.

Perfect example that one can pull themselves up using their bootstraps from nothing to make something of themselves.

No need to rely on handouts across generations.

Just because his father was on welfare doesn't justify it, we need to end welfare immediately. Its stealing, plain and simple.

OP what exactly is the point of this thread, we now know he was on welfare, what is there to discuss other than bash romney?

Perfect example of someone who was born with a silver spoon in his mouth (which might not have happened if his father didn't have that social safety net). Mitt Romney tries to portray himself as someone who 'did it on his own', and recalled a story about how he and his wife didn't have any money during college and 'lived modestly'. He then had to sell some of the stock that was given to him by his father. A truly inspiring story of pulling yourself up by your FATHER'S bootstraps.

Oh and Mitt's dad gave him a 'loan' on his first house. A truly inspiring American story.

Did you completely miss Romney bashing "47%" of Americans for being 'dependent'?

And I heard her mention they were on Welfare for a few years. Romney paid more in taxes in 2011 than it costs to have 1000 people on welfare for a few years.

If he father was on welfare how was he born with a silver spoon in his mouth?

Yes I heard it, I bash people on welfare all the time. Like I said earlier the point of the thread is to bash romney

Of course the point is the bash Romney. He personally benefited from his father having a social safety net. He might not have had the same life if his dad wasn't on welfare. Hell, he might not even have had been born, considering his mom is recounting only his dad being on welfare.

Because his father became a CEO of an American corporation. If he didn't have the social safety net under him, it's possible that a) he wouldn't have as much success and b) that Mitt might not even have been born.

You would have thousands of children in the U.S dying of exposure and starvation. Sad really.

Oh FFS give it up. David Corn took Mitt Romney's campaign behind the woodshed and finished it off last night. It's over.

Wouldn't that make you happy though? Getting rid of that evil "Conservative"

romney isn't a Conservative

and more money has gone to corporate welfare and bailouts than to actual citizens over the last decade.

What he also doesnt understand is that starving people with no shelter dont just sit there and die, they revolt, steal and do whatever is required to survive. Nice society he wants to live in.

Of course he would just have the government kick them all out

What is your point? Doesn't the fact he is a millionaire underscore how ridiculous his recent statements were?

Welfare helped Mitt's father when they were "down and out" get on their feet. Which allowed him to become head of a car company and Governor. Which allowed him to send Mitt to an elite boarding school, and elite colleges, support Mitt so he didn't work during school and give him a loan for his first house.

So not only did the government help Mitt build his own life. Mitt is calling his father a moocher. And on top of that instead of paying taxes to afford others the chances he got because of "government" he hides his money in offshore accounts.

Swell individual indeed.

So welfare in your eyes isnt about helping people. It is about keeping them where they are and not revolting. Who says the left desires a classless society?
