1983 Honda Accord 5spd. Yes the model was called 5 spd. Biggest POS I have driven. Hand me down from parents. They babied it too. The gearbox/transaxle managed to jettison synchros on a yearly basis. Two alternators at 450 bucks each in 1991 dollars. Eff that car.

1988 Toyota pickup. Still in college, my dad gave me his truck. Stripped with a vinyl interior. No a/c. Later added an aftermarket a/c. And my uncle reupholstered the interior and reprinted the body. My dad had this done after I gave the truck back to him when I moved out.

1995 Dodge Neon Sport. Fun little car. Great steering. Fast for an economy car for that era. POS. glad it was leased. The head gasket, radio, fog lamp harness were replaced under warranty. Couldn't imagine that car long term.

1967 Ford Mustang. This little C code car turned into a beast. Just shy of 400hp. Force 10 brakes, adjustable suspension.

2003 Ford Focus ZX3. Bought it to DD while enjoying the Stang. Really great car that was fun to drive. Great at long distance hauls. Cruises quietly and tracks like a bigger car. Reliable to the last. Car was totaled a couple months ago.

2009 Chevrolet Malibu LTZ. Love this car. My first fully loaded car. Very weird having stuff I first thought was a gimmick. Auto climate control, heated seats. Now it's hard to imagine a car without them.

1992 Pontiac Sunbird SE - 3.1L V6 drove pretty well, and I had the premium white leather interior. Fun first car, although not the most reliable. Tranny died at 160k...
2003 Mazda 6S - Extremely reliable and pretty fun to drive until rust issues caused me to abandon it
2009 Nissan 370Z - Great car, fun to drive, and has been rock-solid stable
1989 Honda Prelude Si 4WS - Good, reliable winter car to drive when the Z was garaged. Sold this year.
2011 WRX - Great car in summer/winter and has been a blast to drive

1994 Nissan Pickup (first car ever, who doesn't love their first car?)
1992 Subaru SVX (awesome car, very unique and rare)
1998 Ford Probe (mostly POS)
2001 VW Jetta (very satisfied with it)
2012 Mustang (I'm in love)

Loved all of my cars, except the probe which was only a temp car I used for 6 months until I bought the Jetta. Haha I remember that POS probe had the ford symbol removed and replaced with a radioactive symbol. It had cheapass walmart spinners on the wheels, and the engine would die if there was less than 1/4 tank of gas every time you would come to a stop. It as pretty fun to drive though and the headlight open/close action was smooth as silk and freaking sweet.

1983 Toyota Tercel (wrecked)
1989 Honda Accord Coupe (wrecked)
1985 Honda Accord Hatch (got the motor from the 89)
1985 Ford F-150 (moved me from Portland to Pittsburgh and back again)
1995 Subaru Impreza
1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Presently owned:

2002 Ford Mustang GT
2001 Dodge Viper RT/10

Looking to ditch the Mustang soon and get something more practical. It's absolutely pointless as an entertaining daily driver now that I have the Viper. Current object of lust is a Cherokee SRT8.

Let's see haven't done this in a while, but now that I don't switch cars as often should be easier.

1984 Toyota Cressida (Couldn't ask for a better first car, I6 engine love)
1986 Toyota Tercel (4wd fun)
1987 Toyota Corolla (first 5 speed car I owned, learned on a MF tractor many years before)
1976 Buick Skylark (Friends and I split this 3 ways and we destroyed it in a couple weeks)
1987 Volvo 740GLE (still refuse to even think of buying a Volvo after this POS)
1994 Acura Integra GSR (only car I have had a car payment, sold after a year)
1990 Acura Integra (did a full OBDI conversion on this to save money on a distributor)
1987 Acura Integra (got this for next to nothing, wanted to own all three available generations at the time)
1981 Ford Ranger (fuel injected!)
1989 Honda Prelude Si (It was even MSY, total junker)
1992 Jeep Cherokee (love that striaght 6)
1980 Toyota Corolla Wagon (2200 lbs of RWD goodness)
2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee (meh, got a good deal on it, Chrysler has all but ruined the reliability on the 6 at this point)

I have no idea why, but I just love the LS to death.
As for the Civic and Cavvy, the Civic was waaay too much money for too little. Sold it, bought the Cavvy and pocketed the change.

Question: based on this thread a lot of you Americans by American cars... why is that?

I know the only reason I bought an American car is so that I could one day answer this question on an internet message board. A catch 22.

In case you were wondering, by my rough counting based solely on where the company is headquartered and not where the car is actually made. At this posting, it shakes down to 163 American, 98 Asian, 21 European, in case your post was not just flame bait thread derailment material.

When I've purchased a car, the American model was the best fit for me expect when I got the Mazda. I'm also a fan of the LSx engines and endless amount of upgrades available.

Same thing could be asked of Euro. drivers....why do they own so many Euro built cars?

That's simple, other than Japanese cars the only cars available in Europe are european.

Edit: Also pacific rim cars but they are shit.

So are you seeing now how your question didn't actually need to be asked?

Well yes, it did, because you guys have all the cars we have here, and American cars. There seems to be this kind of patriotic thing in America when it comes to buying products, buying American cars because you are American and love America, I'm not saying that's a bad thing, in some ways It's a very good thing, more jobs, supporting the manufacturing industry etc.

Fair enough, but I do find it strange that you guys seem to buy (not always, but sometimes) worse cars, because you are being patriotic, when I was in the US the first rental car I had was 2009 Chevrolet Impala, it was an unbelievable piece of shit, I was blown away buy how cheap and crap and tacky it was, and yet I saw them everywhere! I assumed they were really really cheap but they really aren't, they aren't exactly expensive but you can get other, far better made cars for similar prices, So I began to wonder is it this patriotism thing that makes you guys buy American cars.

Then after reading this thread it was apparent that you guys do own more American cars than anything else.

A 2009 Impala would be made in Canada, by Canadians. It was the very end of the old W body platform and there was really nothing else like it still being made except the old version Buick Lacrosse.

So you are using a poor example in several ways.

Did not realise that. Interesting, it was just an example though. Why buy a Chevrolet average car when you can buy a BMW etc...? Is it patriotism?
