This may have been posted before, if so, feel free to delete the thread...

I was getting low 3DM11 scores, arount 9-10K with 6990CF on 980x at 3.33GHz. Today I OCed 980X to 3.7 GHz and got 13k 3DM11 score. I kow it can be pushed further, but i am waiting for water cooling before doing real OCing...

Bottom line is: Stock clocked 980x bottlenecks 2x6990s.

Who exactly will be running 2x 6990's? Other than the odd nutjob :D

me. And you better hope I am not a nutjob, since I have B.Sc. in Nuclear engineering and M.Sc. in physics.. I really do.

So, I've always wondered, If a tree falls in the forest, and there's nobody there to hear it, does it make any noise? Surely a man with your education would know! :p

Well, it depends...
1. If by noise you define any sound, which in its turn is defined as a mechanical wave propagating through a medium then yes it makes a sound.
2. If by noise you define those parts of a signal which negatively effect the receivers ability to interpret the information stored in the signal, then no it does not, since there is no signal or a receiver present in the forest.

EDIT:
Since you actually asked about it it makes a "Noise" rather than sound, then there is always a counter argument that while it does make a sound even if there is someone to hear it, that sound is not a noise, because it caries information about the mechanichs of the tree falling and its parts are simple harmonics, rather than random static.

I didn't think so.

You have committed cardinal sin amongst 980X owners! (Running less than 4GHz!) :D

Get a decent cooler and push that puppy to 4.2-4.4GHz.

Mhh, dear pcm81, could you please consider overclocking both those 6990's to their utmost limit on water, and showing us your results ?

Besides, if you do watercool them , you need one loop per board ;) (oc'd they'll get past 600 watts)

Also, please pencilmod them if you can xD

Pencilmod? I have not heard of it since old AMD days unlocking cpu multiplier on chips... Did they do it again?
