I updated my fateher in laws computer today from 900MHz thunder bird on a MSI mobo with VIA chipset ..... installed Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe, 512 pc 2700 mushkin and AMD barton 2800+ with nForce 2 chipset .... backed up all the importent data ( knew I will have to reinstall windows )...installed the hardware and booted up ... to my surprise it booted into windows .... all I had to do was to install the nForce 2 drivers ..... no data loss and ran a few benchmark and every thing is rock solid ... just have to activated windows .... smoothest install ever ...... wanted to share 🙂 happy computing
 
Yeah I have installed 4 new motherboards in my system and for 2 of them it booted up fine the other two I had to reinstall windows. I guess Windows is weird like that, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.

Good news on the smooth upgrade BTW.
